Trump considered him as a running mate.

The Daily Mail and The New York Times reported that President-elect Donald Trump will pick Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) as his secretary of State.

From The New York Times:

    Mr. Trump could still change his mind at the last minute, the people said, but appeared to have settled on Mr. Rubio, whom he also considered when choosing his running mate this year.

    Mr. Rubio was elected to the Senate in 2010, and has staked out a position as a foreign policy hawk, taking hard lines on China and Iran in particular.

    He initially found himself at odds with those Republicans who were more skeptical about interventions abroad, but he has also echoed Mr. Trump more recently on issues like Russia’s war against Ukraine, saying that the conflict has reached a stalemate and “needs to be brought to a conclusion.”

Rubio is a neocon.  He may as well have chosen Haley or Pompeo and posted a message “I will not be inviting Little Marco to join my cabinet - but I thank him for his support.”   Unsurprisingly, Trump has made questionable decisions lately, and they all involve personnel.

DeSantis can name a replacement immediately after the senate resignation.  I think he is aware of the numbers game in the House, and will choose a standin from elsewhere.

DeSantis will be very reasoned with his choice. He could choose from safely red congressional districts which are many.

FR doing backflips over this.  200 posts.

Immediate, “no!”  Then the “Rubio is a solid choice” and then “Trump is playing 6D chess again”.  Of course including the same arguments here.  Whatever it is, they tend to come back to “I have full faith in Trump and he always does things for a good reason”.  Meanwhile a few months ago still griping about just about every person Trump interacts with.

I think Rubio is an OK choice, and if it is to try to help the Senate, then maybe it will.  Maybe Trump discussed with DeSantis about this scheme.

Honestly, I had to look up who our Lt. Gov. is.  It's Nunez a Cuban-American whom he selected as his running mate.  She hasn't been very visible.

If DeSantis were to vacate his seat or when he becomes term-limited, he's going to be a tough act to follow.

I don't see Rubio in a positive light on anything.  He vowed to leave the Senate then when someone was vying for his seat (and I believe it was DeSantis) he decided he wanted to come back.  He's a RINO. I don't believe he can be trusted.  He's articulate and charismatic and fools people.  How can one look the other way at his involvement in the Gang of Eight?  As a reminder members were;  Sen. Michael Bennet, D-CO, Sen. Dick Durbin, D-IL, Sen. Jeff Flake, R-AZ, Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-SC, Sen. John McCain, R-AZ, Sen. Bob Mendez, D-NJ, and Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-NY -- and Marco.

I truly hope Trump selected him to get rid of him.

I don't follow Rubio closely. I do remember the Gang of Eight episode. But wasn't he fairly young and new to the Senate? Possibly being courted by McCain (like it or not, he was pretty powerful)  or climbing the ladder to get better appointments? I don't like that the critters we elect do that but it's what they do. Or they wouldn't be politicians.

Maybe he's learned and might be fine in this position. Of course, I'm not from Fla. so I sure don't know.

It’s now been 2 days since it was leaked to media that Rubio would be Secretary of State and Trump still has not publicly confirmed it

Safe to say this was not a leak of Trump’s choice

This was a leak to pressure Trump’s choice

The lefties on X were deriding Lara Trump as just a "culinary school dropout." Turns out, she actually has a bachelors degree in addition to some culinary school training. Not that it matters; we all know people with no college whatsoever who are smarter than any Ivy Leaguer, and I certainly am not endorsing her for the appointment, but I had to laugh at the Dems' (oh-so-typical) dishonesty.
