On Thursday, California Governor Gavin Newsom (D) called a special legislative session to “fight” President-elect Trump following his landslide victory over Kamala Harris in the election. [emphasis, links added]

The special session will begin December 2.


Governor Newsom said Trump, based on his actions taken during his first term in office, is a threat to California’s climate change program, illegal immigrant population, women’s rights, and LGBTQ+ rights.

“California is ready to fight,” Newsom said. “I just called an emergency special session to help bolster our legal resources and protect our state against any unlawful actions by the incoming Trump Administration.”

If California wants to suck, that's their business, but don't impose California's suckitude upon the rest of the states.

California will eventually be beaten into submission because it will not be able to compete with other states for business and skilled workers.

Nevada, Arizona, and Mexico aren't that far away.  If the Raiders, a business, can move to Nevada, so can other California businesses.

Posturing. Noisome will be termed out at the end of 2026. My speculation is that he has fantasies of running for President in 2028. If the Dem Party is thinking clearly, they'll realize that Noisome does not play well outside of California, if even there. The 2024 Biden-Harris debacle demonstrated that clear thinking may not be something the Dem Party does well right now.

Well, if he really wants to Trump-proof California, perhaps they should secede.

And we should let them go, with some conditions: (1) All counties adjacent to other states get to have plebiscites on whether to leave California, and join the neighboring state, (2) We get a lease in perpetuity on all Navy and Marine facilities remaining in California, (3) the California dollar (or peso) is pegged at parity with the US dollar for five years, then allowed to float, (4) they assume a share of the Federal national debt, half in proportion to GDP, half in proportion to population, (5) newly seceded California pays for people wishing to leave to move to a location in the remaining United States as part of a voluntary exchange of populations -- all people choosing to remain in seceded California cease to be US citizens and become citizens of the new Republic of California, as do all US citizens who choose to move there with the intent of remaining during the first five years after secession.

Either that or we should oppose it, invade an impose radical reconstruction measures.
