  • I was a "conspiracy theorist". Now I'm just right.
When I consider the number of 'fossil fuel' projects that have been held up or even scuttled over the mating habits of some common species (like the elk rut, as if anything will deter an elk in rut) or a butterfly that was "not very common" in the 1910 survey of the badlands, and true to form is still "not very common" even today (but that was taken as evidence of its endangered-ness), the idea that a cybernetic hive mind project could be held up by critters with a literal hive mind seems ironic, if not amusing.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

It's still "economic development" of some sort, I wasn't discriminating in any way. Same could be said for a fossil fuel project. I mean this is even dumber because fossil fuels are often eschewed by these tech companies as something evil anyway.
