Wendy's Closing 140 More Restaurants in Push to Update Its Locations
01 November 2024 12:54 PM EDT
Associated Press via Newsmax

Wendy’s plans to close 140 U.S. restaurants before the end of this year on top of the 100 it said it would close in May.

But in a conference call with investors Thursday, the company said those closures will be offset by new restaurant openings. Wendy’s said it plans to open between 250 and 300 restaurants this year.  ...

U.S. restaurant sales have seen little growth this year as many consumers pushed back against rising menu prices. Wendy’s same-store sales – or sales at locations open at least a year – were up less than 1% in the U.S. in the first half of this year.

Earlier in October, Denny's announced it will close 150 locations by the end of 2025. And Red Lobster filed for bankruptcy protection in May after closing dozens of stores. ...

We have a new Wendy's nearby.  When it first opened it was ridiculous.  The staff couldn't get orders right and it was wise to check what was put in the bag. They've worked out most of their kinks, but I still feel prices are steep for fast food burgers and fries.

The US had too many restaurants. This is just a good correction  just as the stock market needs a good correction every once in a while.

The younger generation are also more into independent restaurants, mom and pops, food trucks etc. My youngest nieces and newphews would not be caught dead in a Cracker Barrell or Olive Garden

Food trucks in my area have lines around them at almost any time. Every day there are 5-7 -9 food trucks on my  main street

You say some really *sshat crap.  Too many restaurants?  Really?  Rather have the number one would find in a socialist nation I suppose?

People owning restaurants is a pure expression of capitalism, yet sadly so many idiots run about thinking socialism is better.  I have been to a number of socialists countries, trust me, there is nothing good about socialism.  NOTHING!!!

Fact is, there are less restaurants, and of the ones remaining, where we used to stand in line for 1-2 hours to get a table, most restaurants are half filled, and happy to be so.  I do not miss the lines, but the reason restaurants have closed and now are one half or two thirds empty is due exclusively to the moronic policies of Biden/Harris which drove the cost of food and everything else through the roof.

I mentioned in another thread, my wife and I went out a few nights ago to Ted's, I had a burger, my wife the child size salmon dinner, and it cost $45.  No drinks or alcohol.  Not long ago, that same meal cost TWENTY SOME DOLLARS!!!

It is not a f***ing correction.  Don't hold your breath for prices to go down.    I went to buy a bag of potato chips, a bag that would cost $2+ a bag, and it is now $4.99, and a good bit smaller in net weight than bags just 3-4 years ago.

This bullsh*t is all due to the policies of the Biden/Harris Idiocracy.  Ugggh!  Biden will go down as the worst POTUS in USA history.  If Harris wins, it will be another fixed election, and if you think prices are high now, just wait and see what happens with that idiot as POTUS.  Prices will double or triple from where they are.

I WANT VOTING MAJORITIES IN EVERY HOUSE IN CONGRESS AND A REPUBLICAN POTUS.   If a Democommie never gets elected again in the USA, it will be no loss, they have gone communist, and I have no use for the commie b*st*rds.  NONE!!!

I forgot to mention, last I went to Wendy's was back in 1982.  I went late one night, got a burger, and it made me violently ill.  Haven't been back since.

Went to a Burger King, after not having fast food in about ten years.  They had a buy one get one free.  I bought two Whoppers, expected two free.  Got home, only two burgers in the bag.  From the first bite, I said to my wife, this is NOT the Whopper I enjoyed when younger.  Called the restaurant up, asked for the manager, told her about not getting our free burgers, and the ones we got, not even a dog would eat it.  She said, return them, I will give you your money back.  Did that and went out to a restaurant to eat.

I cannot imagine the day I will ever step into a McDs, Burger King, Wendys, etc and order anything.  Ugggh!  Yuck.  It is not food!!!  Now if all three chains went out of business, all that eat in those horrendous establishments would be in better health.

If I eat out, which is rare any more, there is only one chain restaurant in town I would eat at, because i know the owner. The other places (all three) are established local independents, not franchises, and though a little expensive they are good. There is one place in Fairview, MT, and another in Sidney, but otherwise, that's it. Forget fast food, with the exception of the local Dairy Queen, but I haven't been there for a year. During the boom here, it cost about $15 a head to go to a fast food joint, and for that I could get steaks and grill them. A little more work but a tremendously better result.

Facts my friend facts.

This article is from 2019 saying a resturant shakeup is coming due to too many restaurants

https://www.providencejournal.com/story/lifestyle/food/2019/08/07/there-are-too-many-restaurants-food-industry-experts-say-poll/4523461007/

He is not alone in this prediction. David Henkes, a senior principal at food-service industry analyst firm Technomic, says that for a number of years, the rate of restaurant growth has exceeded population growth.

Too many restaurants are chasing too few consumer dollars, he says.

This is from wiki regarding Darden which owned numous chains  Darden has had money problems for years way before Biden Harris was around

Markets were oversaturated with restaurants in 1997, forcing Darden to close 48 poorly performing locations and lose $91 million due to the restructuring. Red Lobster and Olive Garden were given makeovers in 1998. Darden also made a profit of $102 million that year.[6]

Why don'tt you do some basic research why restaurants are performimg poorly today that have nothing to do with Harris Biden but changing demographics, socialogocal changes

Here are a couple I read from Restaurant  Trends that are hurting restuarants there was many more that have nothing to do with the economy:

1.Work Form Home has hurt because people are no longer going out to lunch at restaurants. a 1/3 of the US workforce works from home now.

2 Young people no longer date in numbers like the past. No more date nights every Saturday night

3. Netflix and streaming services- no more theatre dates and then a dinner afterwards. People stay home to watch amovie and order a pizza.

4, People are not as  sociable in the past with friends.  The amount of people who claim they have no friends is at record levels  The internet is making people introverts.

5. People especially young people have found a renewed love of home cooking as a hobby and no longer eating out as much.  Blackstomne grills and such are making record sales.

6. Growing trend of farm to home food salers

The restaurant industry has changed substantially since that pre-covid 2019 study, I suspect.

The reason so many restaurants are shutting down is because your pals the socialist democrats have destroyed the economy, with a bonus in California boosting the minimum wage for unskilled, no real thought required fast food jobs $20 an hour….if the company has more stores than the communists feel is the right amount of success, or you donate the right amount of money tomthe King Rat Noisome(Panderia).

The restaurant business is struggling because it's too darned expensive to eat at them. Not all their fault.

When I worked, I ate lunch out every day. There is no way I could do that at today's prices.

Who ever thought MickeyD's would be a luxury?

FAst Food restaurants should be relegated to exit ramps on interstate hwy's.  It is how choke and pukes thrive.
