Quote
A Halloween parade display in Westmoreland County depicting Vice President Kamala Harris handcuffed and leashed to the back of a golf cart drew outrage from bystanders and the Pittsburgh branch of the NAACP, which denounced it as a symbol of racism and hatred.

“It had no place in any parade of any kind in this country,” said Diane Bailey, mayor of Mt. Pleasant Borough, where the parade took place Wednesday night.

Daylon Davis, president of the local NAACP chapter, said the parade entry goes beyond Halloween satire or free expression but rather was a harmful symbol of the history of racism in the country.

“In allowing this display, the organizers have sent a troubling message that demeans and dehumanizes Black and Brown individuals,” he said in a statement. “This kind of imagery reinforces a dangerous narrative, implicitly suggesting that Black individuals belong in chains. Such a display has no place in our society today or any community that values inclusivity, respect and human dignity.”

Bailey said the entry in the annual parade was disturbing and upsetting. She attended the event and said Thursday she had received numerous complaints from residents and officials who were appalled.

The parade was organized by the Mt. Pleasant Volunteer Fire Department. Held the night before Halloween on Main Street in the community of 4,250, there were all the typical entries — fire trucks, Boy Scouts, high school football players and dance groups.

Racism, huh. I doubt Mr. Davis would have found it distasteful if Trump or some other old white man was similarly depicted.

I remember this and the media just laughed about it at the time...

Sarah Palin effigy hung in Halloween display

Quote
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - An effigy of U.S. Republican vice-presidential nominee Sarah Palin hanging by a noose as part of a Halloween display drew complaints on Monday, but local officials said the homeowner was covered by free speech rights.

A mannequin dressed to resemble the Alaska governor, with her trademark beehive hairdo and glasses, was hung by the neck from the eaves of the home in famously liberal West Hollywood.

On the roof, a mannequin of Republican presidential candidate John McCain, protruded from the chimney surrounded in flames, holding his head as he was apparently burned alive.

"We have been getting some phone calls this morning complaining about it but if (the homeowner) isn't in violation of municipal code we have no reason to cite them," West Hollywood spokeswoman Helen Goss said.

"People have First Amendment rights (to free speech)," Goss said. "I would speculate that if it's part of a Halloween display then its political satire."

Aside from the point of this story, does anyone notice how lately they’re always trying to tie in Latinos with blacks even totally unrelated?

First it’s offensive to NAACP because of slavery, THEN they say it’s demeaning to all “Black and Brown people”.  What have Latinos to do with USA slavery?

It’s like they’re always trying to increase the grievance train no matter what the context.

It is sort of apples and oranges, though.  That’s a personal display.  This was a municipal parade through a town.

Great. Just what Trump needs in MI! Nothing like sinking Trump's chances. First and foremost this was in extremely poor taste and should have never been part of the parade.

When is the hatred going to stop???  This does our country no good, nor the GOP any good, and is a terrible example for our youth.

Not funny!

If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.     -Dwight Eisenhower-

"The [U.S.] Constitution is a limitation on the government, not on private individuals ... it does not prescribe the conduct of private individuals, only the conduct of the government ... it is not a charter for government power, but a charter of the citizen's protection against the government."     -Ayn Rand-

They could instead have burned her in effigy as was done by those opposing various politicians, kings and the like from time out of mind.  Of course such things are expressions of hatred (notice that is the English noun, hate is a verb, and while one can noun verbs and verb nouns in English, one doesn't do it when there is already a servicable word with the same root, unless one is an illiterate leftist), but shocking, really?
And when they behead your own people in the wars which are to come, then you will know what this was all about.

But that wasn't at all shocking apparently? I don't recall hearing a peep out of the media anywhere over that. It seems that ALL there faux outrage is directed in one direction only.

Yes the reporting is definitely lopsided, but there is no room for 'hatred' and vile remarks and actions from either side.  It needs to stop.

Let's get back to love of country and our fellow Americans.

I know that this is a stretch to hope that we can get back to this scenario, but unless we heal as a nation, we truly cannot make America great again.

I generally agree.

I don’t like the constant harping on “racist” and “slavery”, but yes, this is untoward to make political statements in a public parade.

And frankly, I don’t even get it.  What is the genius wit of this display?  Is it supposed to be a play on something?  Gun on the roof, Trump sign, Kamala chained behind….is that supposed to be some kind of reference to some issue or incident?

Oh I totally agree on the “hate” thing.  Grammar NAZI here.  I HATE the usage of the word “hate”!  LOL. Those asinine smarmy signs really drove the bad grammar:  “hate(sic) has no home here”.  Now everyone does that, and “hatred” doesn’t seem to be a word anymore!  Drives me nuts!

That was disgusting, and even a nod to our should-be enemies, the Moslems!

There was a bit of a stink over it, but not too much.  Except that stupid annoying ugly wench got all upset that so many came down on her.

She had her 15 min of fame on Seinfeld, and that was it.  This was her comeback, he next 5 min.

Totally agree.

But, the whole culture has to change.  (And a certain someone doesn’t really help it, either.)  Truth is this is just the trash culture coming to a head.  Look at the ‘hood, which seriously needs a spanking and has to change that vile, disgusting culture or it will never ever get better.  The refined people of the past who loved our country unequivocally are dying off now, as my mom has this year.  Hers is the last generation to reliably have a love for the country but more importantly, its principles as in the Constitution.

Well, Halloween has become all about depictions of horror, and I guess this was horrifying enough (The thought of Kamala in irons) to trigger a bunch of people.

Ah ... culture change.  That's a huge issue. With so many ILLEGALS in this country, is it a wonder that the left has succeeded in stirring the pot???

With the narrative for so long from the left that it is Republicans that have caused racism and keeping the 'Blacks' down, is it any wonder that they have succeeded in stirring the pot??

With the left's indoctrination of our youth in public schools, is is any wonder that they have succeeded in stirring the pot?

That's what needs to change.  Republican conservatives need to find a way to change those narratives period.  Something that the GOP needs to work on.  Unfortunately, the GOPe isn't helping and tends to allow the leftists and the MSM to control the narrative.  Sad.
