The suspect, Sidi Mohamed Abdallahi, 22, who police shot and critically wounded after he allegedly opened fire on responding police and paramedics, was charged with six counts of attempted murder, and more than half a dozen additional gun-related charges, said police, who did not announce a motive.

A Far South Side man is accused of following and shooting a man walking to synagogue over the weekend and then opening fire on police and paramedics, sparking an exchange of gunfire in West Ridge.

Sidi Mohamed Abdallahi, 22, was charged with six counts of attempted murder, seven counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm, and aggravated battery, police said.

A motive remained unclear for the attack, which happened about 9:30 a.m. Saturday in the 2600 block of West Farwell Avenue, and left Abdallahi in critical condition after officers shot him, police said.

Alderperson Debra Silverstein (50th) told the Sun-Times the shooting victim was a 39-year-old orthodox Jewish man on his way to services.

“Notably, and despite evidence that seems to suggest an antisemitic motive for the shooting, authorities did not file hate crime charges,” Silverstein said in a statement.

“I am very disappointed by this turn of events and strongly encourage the Cook County State’s Attorney Office to prosecute the offender to the full extent of the law. The police have assured me that they are continuing to gather evidence, and additional charges — including hate crime charges — can still be added,"Silverstein said. ...

Nope, no hate crime charges in this case.

Update: FBI is involved in the investigation but everyone is staying silent. Chicago Police privately say they fear being accused of Islamophobia if they so much as confirm the case is merely being investigated as a hate crime. Unconfirmed nationality and legal status of shooter.

Dear Neighbor,

Authorities filed charges today against Sidi Mohamed Abdallahi for the shooting Saturday that targeted a Jewish member of our community as he walked to synagogue on Shabbat. The offender was charged with 14 felony counts, including 6 counts of attempted murder in the first degree. Notably, and despite evidence that seems to suggest an antisemitic motive for the shooting, authorities did not file hate crime charges.

I am very disappointed by this turn of events and strongly encourage the Cook County State's Attorney Office to prosecute the offender to the full extent of the law. The police have assured me that they are continuing to gather evidence, and additional charges – including hate crime charges – can still be added.

I have spoken multiple times with Police Superintendent Larry Snelling and with 24th District Commander Alison Christian since the shooting. I can assure you that law enforcement takes this incident extremely seriously.

Yesterday, I convened a Zoom meeting between Jewish Rabbinic and communal leaders and Superintendent Snelling and his police leadership team to discuss the shooting. The police share our disgust at a Jewish man being the victim of violence over the Jewish holidays. They are dedicated to committing the resources necessary to keep our community safe and they ask for the public’s help in providing any information or footage that could aid in the investigation.

The safety of our community is my greatest priority. As always, I will continue to work closely with Superintendent Snelling and local enforcement to make sure all the residents of the 50th Ward are safe and protected. I will update you with more information as soon as it becomes available.

Latest on Chicago Shooting Cover-Up

Total silence from the White House as we learn more about the Mauritanian man who entered the United States illegally last year, was allowed to stay as an asylum seeker, made his way to sanctuary city Chicago, got a sanctuary state Illinois driver's license, drove to Chicago's largest Orthodox Jewish neighborhood and shot a Jew just hours after Israel carried out an air strike in Iran.

Multiple insider sources attribute the botched PR handling of this case to Democratic Party fears that the facts could materially harm VP Harris just before the election. The ICE status of the shooter was known to law enforcement (and then Democratic officials) the second they ran his ID.

Chicago Police are being ordered by the mayor's office to avoid confirming to media that the suspect shouted Allahu Akbar. But there's already a paper trail that will eventually come out (you know, aside from the Ring video everyone has watched).

Sources tell me the FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Force is still investigating. I'd be shocked if the White House, if not the president himself, has not been fully briefed with regular updates coming in.

I guess they finally figured out his "motive."

I doubt it, I think the hate crime charge is all about the optics, they we’re getting too much blow back so the finally did what they should’ve at the start. Not to worry, some liberal judge will throw the hate crime charge out when they figure the outrage is over and people have forgotten.
