727 Days and 70,000 Miles: Navy Ohio-Class Guided-Missile Submarine 'Sails Into History'
Story by Brandon J. Weichert • 1h

What You Need to Know: The USS Florida, an Ohio-class guided-missile submarine (SSGN-728), recently completed a historic 727-day patrol spanning multiple theaters, including the Middle East, Europe, and the Western Pacific. Originally a ballistic missile submarine, Florida was converted to an SSGN in 2006 to better suit modern warfare needs.

-During its mission, the submarine demonstrated unmatched capabilities in launching Tomahawk missiles and deploying Special Forces.

-However, the extended deployment also highlighted the strain on the U.S. Navy's submarine force, as America’s limited fleet faces increasing global threats, particularly from China’s rapidly expanding navy.

Did anyone, US or otherwise, hunt them while they were submerged or was it just a long training session.  We once had a Ruskie sub get too close, and a destroyer was dispatched to ping it 24/7 until it decided closer to Moscow was a better choice for location.
