Ted Cruz Leaves Dem Opponent Seething Throughout Dominant Debate Performance

Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) left his Democratic opponent U.S. Rep. Colin Allred (D-TX) at a loss for words with a blistering, minute-and-a-half takedown focusing on Allred’s support for radical gender ideology in schools.

“He said not a word about his own record. I have to admit the beginning of it it reminded me of Kamala Harris in our debates answering everything, ‘look i was born in the middle class,'” Cruz began. “It’s lines that sound nice that ignore his record.”

The two-term U.S. senator then pointed to his opponent’s support of numerous pieces of legislation that enshrine radical gender ideology in schools and government functions. “He has come out for men playing in women’s sports, for boys playing in girls sports. He is a co-sponsor and he voted for a law called the Equality Act, The Equality Act mandated that boys be able to go in girls’ bathrooms, in their locker rooms and their changing rooms. He voted for it. That is his record,” Cruz said.

Very stupid for anyone to debate Cruz, the master-class debater.

I do hope Trump does not try to get him in his administration or nominate him for SC.

He is too valuable for Texas and the nation where he is.

Ted Cruz Leaves Colin Allred's Campaign in Shambles With Masterful Debate Performance
By Bonchie | 8:44 AM on October 16, 2024

In a race too close for comfort, with everything on the line, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) delivered a masterful debate performance on Wednesday night. Facing off against Rep. Colin Allred (D-TX), the current senator pummelled his opponent on issue after issue. Allred wasn't ready for primetime, contradicting himself at multiple points and walking right into numerous receipt-laden traps set by Cruz.

Cruz came into the debate planning to expose Allred for the radical he is, not the moderate he claims to be. I think it's safe to say he succeeded.

CRUZ: He's said not a word about his own record. I have to admit that at the beginning of it, it reminded me of Kamala Harris in the debates answering everything, "Look, I was born in the middle class." It's some lines that sound nice that ignore his record. Let's just talk about his voting record. Again, you can go to allredfacts.com, you can see the actual votes. Four times, he has come out for men playing in women's sports and boys playing in girl's sports. He is a co-sponsor and he voted for a law called the Equality Act. The Equality Act mandated that boys be able to go into girl's bathrooms, locker rooms, and their changing rooms.

ALLRED: (mumbling) That's not true, that's not true

CRUZ: He voted for it. That is his record. Number two, there was a bill, it was a very simple bill, it was narrowly defined. It was protecting women and girl's sports. He voted no. The only issue on that bill was whether biological boys should compete against our daughters. Congressman Allred was an NFL linebacker. It is not fair for a man to compete against women.

The third time, he signed onto something called the Transgender Bill of Rights. The Transgender Bill of Rights explicitly, and he cosponsored it, mandated that boys compete against girls in sports. And just two weeks ago, Congressman Allred joined a hundred radical Democrats in demanding that our military allow drag shows on military bases, pay for soldiers to have sex changes using taxpayer money, and pay for children to be sterilized and have sex changes on military bases. Again, that's extreme. That's not Texas, but that's his voting record.

?????

I am one of Cruz' earliest supporters.  I went to one of his very earliest meet and greets very early in the primaries of his first run.  Got to meet him too.

Even with that support, I watched last night's debate and have a different take.  Cruz is a more skilled debater, and if this was a college debate, he'd have won.  Problem is......   Allred won the war of zingers, and moderator pitfalling favored Allred.

So, in the court of public opinion, I think this thing went to the dim puke.  Don't like to say it, but I try to be objective.

As I stated on another thread, this was not a good debate for Cruz.  And this coming from one of his earliest  supporters.

On technical merit, as you would judge a college debate, Cruz won on points.  Problem is, are the intanglibles, like photo-op zingers, and Moderator bias.  That FW station was obviously in the bag for Allred.  Allred got Cruz somewhat rattled a few times, and it wasn;t a good look.

So it might not be a popular opinion here, but I have to (with objectivity) say Allred won .....   slightly.  Will it be enough to unseat Cruz?  Let's hope not

I would cut it in halves, Cruz won the 2nd half, and I am also a long time Cruz supporter.
But I agree, he could have done better, but I think he did fine.
Two points:
Cruz failed to mention why he didn't vote on the Latest borer bill, as it wouldn't trigger border closings until the had 8500 crossing per day (PER DAY!).
Also on the arms for Israel that he didn't vote for, it was because they also had Ukraine and (Hamas?not sure on the 3rd) aid on the same bill. The republicans wanted 3 separate bills, but didn't get that passed for vote. Cruz should have mentioned that, too.

Allred sure liked mentioning Cancun, and I knew that would be a Cruz liability going into it.

That was a strong finish, but in the other 88 minutes, Cruz was a lot on defense .....  waaaaay to much, and he really wasn't that effective of tying Allred to Biden/Harris

And again, this wasn't a knock out.   Just a slight win for the dim puke. (abt. 52-48) Cruz also should have handled the J6 matter response better, but its easy to be a monday morning QB, and I for one hopes this didn't do any damage to the end result.

A great (and true) closing statement, to be sure.

There's an old adage, that in oratorical matters, the opening and closing statements make up 60% of the perception of the listener/watcher.
Hopefully most Texans on the fence will refer to that ending.

I respectfully disagree @catfish1957 from my viewpoint Ted had the clowns, all three of them, on the ropes thirty seconds in and never let up. Did he miss opportunities? Of course he did.

Same to you....

I just look at things technically, and totally unbiased.  I met Cruz in early '12 at one his early meet and greets. And a huge supporter through out.

But in debates, I kind of look at them like scoring boxing matches.  And I just didn't see Cruz winning this thing, so you are right.....  we'll just have to agree to disagree.

I am one of Cruz' earliest supporters.

Same here...I first supported Cruz in 2011 during the TEA Party movement when Palin endorsed and went to Texas to campaign for him.  He's ticked me off a couple of times since his presidential run in 2016 but I'd vote for him in a heartbeat if I could.  Probably one of the top ten debaters in the U.S. today, if not THE best.

With that said, I dunno about your assessment about who won the debate, but Cruz's take-down last night is getting the lion's share of the media coverage today.
