Quote
Boeing on Friday said it's cutting 10% of its workforce, or about 17,000 employees.

In a in a memo Friday, CEO Kelly Ortberg announced the layoffs, writing that the aerospace giant must make "tough decisions" to stay competitive. Ortberg added that the company is also delaying its program to develop the 777X airplane and halting production of the 767 aircraft after it delivers the remaining 767 planes that have been ordered by customers.

The layoffs and production changes come amid a labor dispute at Boeing, with 33,000 machinists going on strike last month after failing to agree on a contract. The aerospace giant's finances and reputation have also taken a hit this year due to manufacturing problems and multiple federal investigations, following a mid-air panel blowout in January.  ...

"Competitive" against whom?  Boeing has pretty much swallowed up all its competitors, except Airbus.

With that said, the strikers didn't think things through obviously.

After their dismal space failure, I think they still have dreams of competing with Space X.

Any overcompensated Board Members or Executives being shown the door without a platinum parachute?

Boeing faces more comptetition from foreign aircraft manufacturers, mostly for smaller capacity, shorter flight aircraft.

It's only a matter of time before the Chi-coms use stolen intellectual property and stolen technology to put Western commerical aircraft makers out of business.  It was mistake to let commies join the WTO.

Boeing cutting 17,000 jobs as financial losses deepen

.

Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg announced to employees in a memo released on Friday that the company is laying off 17,000 people.

“Our business is in a difficult position, and it is hard to overstate the challenges we face together,” Ortberg said in the memo. “The state of our business and our future recovery require tough actions.”

The decision comes nearly a month after workers with the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers District 751 went on strike. The union, which represents nearly 33,000 workers, rejected Boeings offer of giving workers a 25% wage increase over the next four years. Instead, the union is calling for a 40% wage increase.

Boeing said the strike is costing the company nearly a billion dollars a month and led the company to start one-week furlough for employees. However, Ortberg said in the memo that the cycle of furloughs will end.

I wonder if Harris will point to this as a success of the Biden/Harris presidency or will she take all the credit for it.

Wanna bet she blames Trump?

Boeing factory workers vote to reject a contract offer and press ahead with a six-week strike, hours after the company reported a $6.2 billion loss in the third quarter.

"Boeing factory workers vote to reject a contract offer and press ahead with a six-week strike, hours after the company reported a $6.2 billion loss in the third quarter."

Gonna be MORE THAN a 10% worker cut.

One step closer to a company-wide bankruptcy.

Will Airbus step in to take them over?

Nah they’re ‘to big to fail’ so we’ll bail them out because, wait for it…they are vital to our space program and military **nononono*

No one will miss Boeing when it is gone.  Their legacy of a builder of great aircraft and innovation left the building 20 years ago.  Sell off the parts and burn the rest.

Yeah, I watched this documentary about what happened, and the troubles started with the merger with McDonnell-Douglas, which shoved the engineers aside in executive management and replaced them with bean counters.

That is not the first time such a thing has occurred and the results have never varied.
"I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo.

"So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us."
