Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN) pushed for the abolishment of the Electoral College during a Tuesday fundraiser in Sacramento, California, at the private residence of Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA).

“I think all of us know the Electoral College needs to go,” Walz said, according to a pool report. “But that’s not the world we live in.”

“So we need to win Beaver County, Pennsylvania. We need to be able to go into York, Pennsylvania, and win. We need to be in western Wisconsin and win,” Walz continued in remarks to donors. “We need to be in Reno, Nevada, and win. And the help that you give here today helps make that happen.”

It’s not the first time Walz has expressed dismay for the Electoral College and favoring the popular vote as a credible pathway to selecting a president.

In May 2023, Walz signed legislation enrolling Minnesota in the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact, a plan that prioritizes electing presidents by national popular vote rather than the Electoral College.

Yup, these people despise the USA and the great Founders who so wisely and carefully crafted all this.

I hate these traitors.  They keep proving what I’ve experienced all my life…undying hatred for everything American, meaning wisdom, tolerance, equanimity, and freedom amongst other virtues.

The Harris campaign walked back Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz’s Tuesday claim that the Electoral College "needs to go," saying that it is not an official campaign position.

"I think all of us know the Electoral College needs to go. We need, we need national popular vote, but that’s not the world we live in," Walz said at a campaign fundraiser in California.

The campaign clarified later that the Harris-Walz ticket is not advocating for eliminating the Electoral College.

"Governor Walz believes that every vote matters in the Electoral College," a campaign official told CNN, adding that Walz "was commenting to a crowd of strong supporters about how the campaign is built to win 270 electoral votes."

Walz has made a series of verbal blunders that his campaign has had to clean up, including false claims about being present at the Tiananmen Square protests in 1989. During the vice presidential debate on October 1, Walz admitted that he can be "a knucklehead at times."

During her 2020 presidential campaign, Vice President Kamala Harris said she was "open to the discussion" of abolishing the Electoral College.

"There’s no question that the popular vote has been diminished in terms of making the final decision about who’s the president of the United States and we need to deal with that, so I’m open to the discussion," Harris said during a 2019 interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

Dims would just love to have to cower and pander to population centers.  Just think of the campaign money they'd save by never having to campaign away from the coast.

Minnesota will become less relevant as Florida and Texas gain House seats as their population growth outpaces the MidWest and Rust Belt.

More power will be transferred to the coasts, leaving fly-over country to become an impoverished wasteland inhabited by tumbleweeds.

The Electoral College is a check-and-balance against a couple of populous states dominating the others.
