President Biden postponed his trip to Germany and Angola this week with Hurricane Milton approaching Florida, the White House announced on Tuesday.
“Given the projected trajectory and strength of Hurricane Milton, President Biden is postponing his upcoming trip to Germany and Angola in order to oversee preparations for and the response to Hurricane Milton, in addition to the ongoing response to the impacts of Hurricane Helene across the Southeast,” press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said in a statement.
The president was set to leave for Berlin on Thursday and was expected to be out on his international trip until Oct. 15. On the trip, he was going to meet with German leaders and focus on their support for Ukraine amid its war effort.
He was then scheduled to travel to Luanda, Angola on Oct. 13 to meet with President João Lourenço.
Hurricane Milton is expected to make landfall on the west coast of Florida Wednesday night as a Category 3 hurricane by the time it reaches shore, with winds of 111-129 mph, The Associated Press reported.
