From what I have seen, those who can, who are not being stopped by FEMA and an approved NGO have done yeoman's work in trying to help those in this ravaged area. With the introduction of FEMA into the picture, however, accounts indicate that those private and less unofficially approved efforts are being halted with threats of arrest, and the seizure of supplies already collected but not yet distributed from all but the churches and individuals they have been distributed to. This may not be the case in all areas. Helicopter assets are critical to reaching people back in those hills, and accounts say those private missions have been grounded in the critical areas, but not replaced by government assets.

Either the job is getting done or it isn't, and the 'sunning on the beach/gala fundraiser' Party should get no more slack than Bush did when people's lives are on the line.
