Biden to deliver final UN address in shadow of foreign policy setbacks

President Joe Biden will deliver his final address to the United Nations as escalating tensions in the Middle East threaten any hope of peace before the end of his term.

The president will defend the accomplishments of his four years in office when he speaks before the General Assembly on Tuesday, including his administration’s work to build alliances in the Indo-Pacific and defend Ukraine’s sovereignty.

But Biden will also attend the annual conference in New York City in the same circumstance that marked each of his prior addresses. The president promised to reengage with the world and restore America’s reputation in the process, but at each turn, he’s been forced to defend his record against the backdrop of an unstable and war-torn world.

Biden first addressed the U.N. as president in 2021, months after his chaotic withdrawal of U.S. troops from Afghanistan. In 2022, he spoke to the body after Russia invaded Ukraine. His remarks in 2023 came after China flew a surveillance balloon across the country, challenging America’s supremacy over its own skies. Now, in 2024, his appearance coincides with an escalation in violence in the Middle East.

Did you know that Joe Biden lied in his UN address today that he helped end the war in Vietnam?

The Paris peace accords were held on January 27, 1973 in Paris France when a cease-fire was signed and the only US representative was William P Rogers, the Secretary of State at the time.

Joe Biden took his oath of office as a US senator January 3, 1973. ...

Biden's UN Remarks Are a Sad Ending to His Political Career As He Slurs, Struggles and Lies

His condition was much in evidence as he spoke, despite the fact that he had a teleprompter.

A handler even had to indicate to him where the podium was that he was supposed to speak from.

He was slurring up a storm and you could see how heavily he was relying on the teleprompter. And he seemed to be getting even older even as he detailed some of the things that had happened over those 50 years.

He claimed that we brought Osama bin Laden "justice." But he had been against taking bin Laden out at the time, even as he now appeared to be trying to take credit for it.

He spoke about the decision to pull out of Afghanistan and said it was the right decision, but he took no responsibility for the botched way in which he conducted the withdrawal, which led to the death of 13 Americans.

Gold Star families rip Biden’s remarks about 13 killed in Afghan withdrawal: ‘No idea what he’s saying’

Family members of the 13 US service members killed in the chaotic August 2021 withdrawal from Afghanistan were underwhelmed Tuesday by President Biden’s brief tribute to their loved ones before the United Nations General Assembly.

Biden, 81, defended the fiasco as “a hard decision, but the right decision” during what was likely his final address to the global body.

“Thirteen brave Americans lost their lives, along with hundreds of Afghans in a suicide bomb. I think [of] those lost lives — I think [of] them every day,” the president said, stumbling over his prepared remarks.

Relatives of the fallen Americans were skeptical.

“He thinks of them only because they are the casualties of his reckless decisions and policies,” Gold Star dad Steve Nikoui told The Post in a text message. “When he says he thinks of them everyday, what he really means is he despises them because they, in his eyes, have tarnished his legacy.”

NEW: President Biden slurs his way through his UN General Assembly speech, brags about his Afghanistan withdrawal.

"When I came to office as President, Afghanistan to replace Vietnam as America's longest war, I was determined to end it, and I did."

"It was a hard decision, but the right decision, four American presidents had faced that decision."

"But I was determined not to leave it to the fifth was the decision accompanied by tragedy."

"13 Brave Americans lost their lives along with hundreds of Afghans in a su*cide bomb. I think those lost lives. I think of 'em every day."
