The Church I belong to currently has thousands of boots actually on the ground in the states affected (Not Franklin Graham's Church). They might look like this:

Today the wife and I decided to send a chunk to Samaritans Purse anyway.

Earthquake risk in CA is very exaggerated. I grew up in Yolo County, which is in the Central Valley. In the 15+ years of my childhood that I can remember I never felt an earthquake. In the decades after I moved elsewhere my parents did not feel any earthquakes, though they knew of the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake from the swaying of some decorations. They lived ~70 miles from the nearest significant fault, and ~150 miles from Loma Prieta. My home in 1989 was about 25 miles from Loma Prieta. We lost electrical power for a couple of days, but I don't think anything fell off our walls or from our cabinets. California construction standards have evolved through the decades since the 1906 earthquake, but the post-WW2 construction I've lived in since moving to Silicon Valley during Carter's MalAdministration has held up well.

As for California falling into the ocean due to the San Andreas Fault, which many conservatives seem to with for, the San Andrea Fault veers into the ocean at SF, follows the coast northward to Point Arena, and then veers out into the ocean. IOW, SF is east of the San Andreas, as is most of California.

I have relatives who live in NE Kansas. They occasionally commented that they could not imagine living in "earthquake country". This amused me, as they spent a good part of every year with an ear on the radio or the Weather Channel, listening for tornado warnings. Every. Year. In the same way, the Gulf Coast has its annual hurricane season, and every few years a hurricane tears its way up the East Coast (e.g. Hurricane Sandy, which clobbered New Jersey). Basic reality is that every area of the world has some sort of natural suck.
Yep, every place has its own version of suck, but some situations are far worse than others, others more predictable.

Maybe California was a bad example...maybe not: (from Google's AI search of quakes around 7 in magnitude)
1989 Loma Prieta
6.9 magnitude earthquake that killed 63 people, injured 3,753, and caused up to $10 billion in damage
1994 Northridge
6.7 magnitude earthquake that killed 57 people, injured 9,000, and caused up to $40 billion in damage
2019 Ridgecrest/Trona
7.1 magnitude earthquake that preceded a magnitude 6.4 quake and had no fatalities

Already worse than this area of the Appalachians in terms of damage in the last 100 years from hurricanes, and only going back 35 years. It is entirely possible the number of dead from this storm will be multiples of all of those events put together--much depends on rescue efforts.
You may be used to what happens there because low magnitude quakes are common and damage mitigated in those because of construction codes, but the folks of Western NC/Eastern TN have not had anything like this in living memory, and its effect is compounded by the dependency on technology (electricity, communications, driving to the store, etc.) that has come about since the last disaster which translates to increased vulnerability, not less. People were more 'bush' capable and self sufficient last time around.
Add in that there is nothing that can resist the force of that much water (25' over ordinary spring floods) moving fast--flash floods along two rivers accompanied by landslides from the saturated ground. The roads and towns are in the bottom of the valleys, the utilities often follow the roads and the roads washed away.
How God must weep at humans' folly! Stand fast! God knows what he is doing!
Seventeen Techniques for Truth Suppression

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Excerpt:
In one of the most heart-wrenching interviews seen on live television, a grieving mother recounted the final moments of her 7-year-old son Micah’s life before he was tragically swept away by the devastating floodwaters from Hurricane Helene in Asheville, North Carolina.

During a Fox Weather broadcast, the anchor struggled to hold back tears as Micah’s mother described her son’s last words on Earth—calling out not for her, but for Jesus.

"I'm so proud of my son because, in his last moments, he wasn't screaming for me. He was screaming, 'Jesus, Jesus, save me. Jesus. I hear you. Jesus. I'm calling upon you.'"

Micah was on the roof of his home with his grandparents when the rising waters took them all. His mother’s emotional recollection of how brave and hopeful her son remained, even in his final moments, touched the hearts of millions.

“He wanted to be a superhero, and now, he's my hero,” she said. “He was so happy until the very end, and in that moment, I believe he found joy."

That’s heavy.

God bless this woman. And Heaven accepts her baby boy.
This is hands down the most inspirational interview I have ever seen

The government narrative is much different than the story we're getting from people on the ground. They aren't even providing the bare minimum of emergency funds to people in desperate need. They are obstructing rescue efforts and trying to suppress information from getting out.

Good luck getting that FEMA $750, which would barely cover the cost of replacing a front door.

More from western N.C. and the MIA Kamala FEMA:

This is from a friend of mine in Asheville, NC, who said I could share:

It is horrible. Many perished in the flood caused by failure to open dams ahead of flood.  Flood washed water pipes and pumps away.  We don't expect water for 3-4 weeks.  I was drawing from the lake to flush toilets and wash with, but they are taking that water for the hospital and lake will get drained eventually.  They need to get people out of here.

But I am safe.  I only had some damage to the fence behind the house.  Am worried about looters.  Am armed and carrying, but will feel better when my power comes on and I can set alarm.  Got out to Johnson City yesterday to do laundry and get supplies.

The only thing saving us is Elon with Starlink and local community and church efforts.  FEMA might be helpful for search and rescue, but Asheville City officials won't even bother to attend press conferences with Buncomb County.

The people are pulling together for the most part to help each other out.  Every day regular people are sawing down trees and clearing roads. I dropped off supplies to a neighbors but the churches are really stepping up. The politicians are as we say down here "as useless as tits on a boar hog".

If people you know want to donate the best bet is churches as they can handle distributing goods direct to communities.  Newbridge Baptist has been very active where I live.  http://828strong.com with Biltmore Church (where I go) has branches all over WNC and they get it done.

Despite all my complaints, we are getting by for now.  We see progress with electric and cellular and have much to be thankful for.

Department Of Transportation Orders Citizens To Stop Using Drones To Help With Hurricane Helene Rescue Efforts

John Oyewale
Contributor
October 03, 2024 3:52 PM ET

The U.S. Department of Transportation warned against the use of drones Wednesday amid ongoing post-Hurricane Helene rescue efforts, according to statements.

“Drone pilots: Do not fly your drone near or around rescue and recovery efforts for Hurricane Helene,” a statement from the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) begins.

Drones, also known as unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), can interfere with emergency response operations and negatively affect on-the-ground search-and-rescue operations, the statement added.

“Our goal is to make sure that funding is no obstacle to very quickly getting people the relief and the need that they deserve,” Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg explained in an accompanying video statement. “There’s [sic] also some safety issues that come up. For example, temporary flight restrictions to make sure that the airspace is clear for any flights or drone activity that might be involved in helping to allow those emergency responders to do their job.”

Hurricane Helene victims in NC are fending for themselves as response from Biden-Harris’ FEMA underwhelms
By Chris Nesi
Published Oct. 3, 2024, 6:34 p.m. ET

Desperate residents of Hurricane Helene-ravaged western North Carolina are relying on homegrown rescue efforts instead of waiting for the Biden-Harris administration’s financially depleted FEMA to get its act together.

Not content to hold out hope for help that some fear might not arrive in time, a handful of grassroots rescue operations have sprung up to render assistance by air, land and even on four legs.

With hundreds more missing in the remote, unforgiving terrain and communication services damaged or nonexistent, the search for survivors grows more dire with each passing hour.

Local airports like City of Statesville Regional Airport and Hickory Regional Airport have transformed themselves into donation dropoff and delivery zones, courtesy of a few dozen volunteers lending their time, critical supplies and in some cases, their planes to the rescue effort.

Proud Southerner Tells Kamala to Take her $750 and “Wipe Your A$$ with It!”

The man tells Kamala, “You can take that $750 and wipe your a$$ with it, Kamala!”

North Carolina flood victim: Kamala Harris, we don’t want you here. We don’t want your party here in North Carolina. If you’re a Democrat and you live in North Carolina, good for you. But this woman is given illegal immigration, patients, more rights to be entitled to be called American, thousands of dollars in food stamps, loads of money in their pockets, and she’s going to give the people in the mountains $750 dollars. You can take that money and go wipe your ass with it, Kamala!

These people, if they choose to stay there and live and to rebuild, they really need government assistance. They really need the food stamps. They need the checks put in their checking account every f*cking two weeks so they can survive and provide for their families. You people in office are so f*cking sick and so disgusting. Hearing you f*ckers talk and you Democrats or you far-left extremists just f*cking keeps swiping.

I don’t even have enough time for your ass right now. I’m seeing videos. I’m reading comments of people slashing people’s tires to keep them from f*cking sending aid, you sick bastards. And when did this bleep hurricane became political? The more and more I get on these updates.

I took a vacation there a long time ago when I was a child. The area that I went to is gone. It’s gone. (pause)

This f*cking world, this country is so f*cked up. You all don’t even give a f*ck anymore. Do you even give a f*ck about life? Huh?

And you f*cking law enforcement and you f*cking first responders, take your f*cking high authority and shove it up your ass. If people are going there to help, let them f*cking help. Because apparently, you all don’t do sh*t. Telling someone they can’t fly their helicopter to send aid. Apparently, the last report I’ve seen, there’s more people with private helicopters out there than there is the f*cking army. And don’t flag me for my language, TikTok. But this f*cking app has got people too got… Too f*cking comfortable. Could you imagine losing your home? I mean, losing everything. And you have nothing to go back to. It’s gone. I’m sorry. Half of us are too entitled to even know any better.

Hurricane Helene's youngest victims: Twin babies who died alongside their mother are named among the more than 200 dead as questions are raised over unheeded warnings

By Taryn Pedler For Dailymail.Com

Published: 04:16 EDT, 4 October 2024 | Updated: 08:59 EDT, 4 October 2024

Twin babies who died alongside their mother have been named as Hurricane Helene's youngest victims as questions are raised over unheeded warnings.

The death toll from the hurricane has now surpassed 200 as rescuers continue to search for survivors from the storm - the deadliest since Katrina in 2005 which killed more than 1,800 people - that has battered the southeast.

But in a devastating update, two newborn boys and their mother were found crushed to death after a large tree crashed through their Georgia home roof.

Among the other young victims are a seven-year-old girl and a four-year-old boy from Washington County, Georgia.

Hundreds of people are still missing and 780,000 homes were without power nearly a week after Helene made landfall as a Category 4 last week, with many left wondering whether more could have been done to sound the alarm on the huge storm before it struck.

Newborn twin brothers Khazmir Williams and Khyzier Williams, were killed along with their mother Kobe Williams, in their home in Thomson by a falling tree during Hurricane Helene on September 30

Navy veteran clung to tree for seven hours before being swept away by Helene flooding, says devastated niece
Bruce Tipton, 75, cried for help but relatives and neighbors were unable to reach him near Asheville, NC
 By Taylor Penley Fox News
Published October 4, 2024 4:00am EDT

The devastating loss of 75-year-old Navy veteran Bruce Tipton left his niece teary-eyed as she spoke about his legacy.

"Everybody knew him in the community. He'd give you the shirt off his back. He was lovable. He would do anything for anybody that he could. He was a father, a grandfather, uncle, a brother and a friend to everybody here," Annie Meadows, a North Carolina resident, told "Fox & Friends First" as she wiped away tears.

Tipton was swept away by floodwaters from Hurricane Helene after crying for help and clinging to a tree for seven hours.

Neighbors and family members heard his cries and tried to reach him after his trailer home succumbed to the waters from the French Broad River in Marshall, N.C.

FEMA Announces Non-Citizen Aliens Will be Granted Disaster Assistance
by Jim Hoft Oct. 4, 2024 11:20 am392 Comments
TruthTweetShareGettrGab

Kamala Harris tells hurricane victims they may qualify for $750 from FEMA after their homes and businesses were destroyed this week.
As Americans suffer through the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, and communities in North Carolina continue to search for over 200 missing loved ones lost in flooding, there is a glimmer of hope for non-citizens.

If you are one of the millions of non-citizens that the Biden-Harris regime granted asylum to, you may qualify for FEMA aid.

FEMA will grant illegals assistance including:
* Permanent Residents
* Non-citizens granted asylum
* Certain non-citizens of their spouses or kids
* More

Biden-Kamala Regime Burns $1 BILLION in FEMA Funds to Resettle Illegal Immigrants — FEMA Now Lacks Resources for Disaster Response!

by Jim Hᴏft
Oct. 3, 2024 8:15 am

As Hurricane Helene tears through the eastern seaboard, leaving devastation in its wake, the mismanagement of FEMA under the Biden-Harris regime is hitting home with deadly consequences.

The storm’s ferocious winds and torrential rains have claimed at least 190 lives, left millions without power, and trapped countless families in floodwaters across North Carolina and beyond. Entire communities have been cut off from vital resources, with citizens scrambling for help.

Yet, in the face of this national disaster, the Biden-Harris administration’s FEMA appears woefully unprepared.
Why? Because over the past two years, they have funneled more than $1 billion in taxpayer dollars away from American disaster relief efforts — and into the pockets of illegal immigrants.

For the second consecutive year, FEMA has implemented Immediate Needs Funding, putting long-term recovery projects on hold due to a severe shortage in the Disaster Relief Funds (DRF), according to a report from NRDC last month.

All Americans should be 'outraged' over Mayorkas' comments on lack of FEMA funds, says Florida AG Moody
Top Biden official faces criticism over more than $1B previously spent on migrants
By Fox News Staff Fox News
Published October 3, 2024 1:00pm EDT

Even though states across the southeastern U.S. are still reeling from Hurricane Helene's destructive path, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas warned FEMA "does not have the funds" to get through hurricane season. On "Fox & Friends First" Thursday, Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody shredded the secretary over the comments, pointing out the more than $1 billion spent on migrants.

ASHLEY MOODY: Everyone should be waking up this morning outraged by that comment. This is not something that has just happened recently. And Florida's been warning about this since this administration took over. Mayorkas has come in like a virus and infected what needs to be healthy, strong, fundamental programs to ensure the stability and safety of Americans in times of disaster.

So you heard they have taken the FEMA emergency food and shelter program and over time siphoned off hundreds of millions of dollars into basically making it an illegal immigrant resettlement program. And so when you see these states and cities around the nation declaring emergencies, even blue states, because of what this administration has done, encouraging more and more and more, developing programs to encourage more and more and more people to come here. The government, Biden and Harris, are having to fund that on the backs of the American people. And right now in Florida, North Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia, all of these states are hurting because of this truly natural disaster, not a Biden-Harris-made disaster. They're saying we need more money. And of course, they need more money because they've been laundering it from the intended purpose of this fund that Congress set forth. Laws be damned.

As relief efforts and disaster response teams work to address the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, Mayorkas issued a chilling warning about FEMA funding.

"We are meeting the immediate needs with the money that we have. We are expecting another hurricane hitting. We do not have the funds. FEMA does not have the funds to make it through the season," Mayorkas said Wednesday.

Hurricane Helene made landfall last week as a Category 4 storm. It lurched up through Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia and Tennessee.

The death toll has risen to over 190 across the affected states.

Very complex situation in the gulf. My call is a threat of category 1.5-2 hit on our scale Later Tuesday or Wednesday on the west coast of FLA south of where Debby and Helene hit  Tremendous amounts of rain are on the way even if a lesser event, but this looks serious even if lesser storm

Matt Gaetz: Whistleblowers Say Troops, Other Responders Sat Idle Waiting for FEMA Orders to Assist with Hurricane Helene

Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) informed Alejandro Mayorkas that whistleblowers have told his office that service members and federal, state, and local responders sat idle while waiting on orders from FEMA to deploy to areas affected by Hurricane Helene.

Fox News Hosts Dishonestly Cut off Kamala Harris Speech to Claim Hurricane Victims Are Only Getting $750

The vice president continued:

FEMA is also providing tens of thousands of more dollars for folks to help them be able to deal with the home repair, to be able to cover a deductible when and if they have insurance, and also hotel costs. Today, I’m also announcing that the president has approved the governor’s request for 100% federal reimbursement of local costs… Also, we will be covering 100% of the local costs for food, water, and shelter.

That is a lot more than $750, to put it mildly.

It’s more shameless stuff from a shameless network.

Does Bastardi know it is literally impossible to have a 980Mb  and a 976Mb system a 100 miles apart from each other?  And what's with the little trailer low a further down in the BOC?    What he basically done is showing a  deepening low trough on steroids and created a meterological impossibility.

A Helicopter Pilot's Rescue of a Couple Shows Everything Wrong With the Government's Response to Helene

Quote
This story out of Lake Lure, North Carolina, which my colleague Brandon Morse briefly mentioned, is infuriating. Now magnify it by 10, and you get an even more potent idea of the people still suffering and the lives lost because of the disconnect between local and federal officials who are tasked (and paid) to help those ravaged by Hurricane Helene and the people who are actually doing the real work.

On Saturday, Jordan Seidhom, an experienced emergency response and search and rescue helicopter pilot, attempted to rescue a couple stranded in the hard-hit area. Shoutout to local Carolina's QueenCity News for covering these stories. Aside from a handful of legacy media outlets, the rest are nowhere to be found.

Seidhom knew what he was doing, did his research, and fully understood the risk. He took his teenage son Landon as his co-pilot. Along with being a licensed pilot, Landon was also volunteer law enforcement and fully understood search and rescue. These people were not just randos who wanted to help. Seidhom clearly followed procedure.

Let's see now. We have innumerable people seeking FEMA aid who were denied immediately upon applying for help, along with other eyewitness accounts - on the ground in hurricane-ravaged regions - of how FEMA's doing nothing, but we're supposed to believe Kommiela when she says they're handing out tens of thousands of dollars willy-nilly.

Dolly Parton joins Hurricane Helene relief efforts as devastation and death toll rises
Hurricane Helene devastated the Carolinas after making landfall along the Florida coast
By Lauryn Overhultz Fox News
Published October 4, 2024 2:53pm EDT

Dolly Parton donated $1 million of her own money to Hurricane Helene relief efforts, the country music star announced Friday.

Parton's Dollywood also added an additional $1 million to the relief fund, donating to The Mountain Way Foundation. Walmart CEO John Furner joined the musician to explain the company has set up resources across the affected states, providing showers and other supplies to Americans displaced by Hurricane Helene.

"I'm happy to be here," Parton said at the press conference. "And I'm sure a lot of you are wondering where I've been. Everybody's saying, 'Where's Dolly? Well, I've been like everybody else, trying to absorb everything going on, trying to figure out all the best ways to do this."

Hurricane Helene dumped trillions of gallons of water hundreds of miles inland, devastating communities nestled in mountains far from the threat of storm surge or sea level rise.
