Trump Cabinet 2.0: Who’s in the running for top spots
by Brett Samuels - 09/22/24 6:00 AM ET

The Trump campaign says discussions of who might serve in key Cabinet roles are “premature,” but that hasn’t stopped D.C.’s rumor mill from taking stock of who might serve in top roles in a second Trump administration.

Trump is in the unusual position of not being backed by a number of members of his previous Cabinet, and many expect loyalty to be a driving factor in appointments this time around. Trump’s transition team will play a central role in determining who will serve in a potential second administration.

The transition is being led by former Small Business Administration head Linda McMahon and businessman Howard Lutnick. Trump’s running mate, Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio), Donald Trump Jr., Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Tulsi Gabbard are all serving in honorary roles on the transition.

Here’s a look at who might serve in key Cabinet positions if Trump wins in November.

Names swirl for Trump second Cabinet as transition team meets White House

Polls suggest the 2024 election between former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris is within the margin of error. But that has not stopped the Beltway from playing one of politicos’ favorite parlor games: guessing and gossiping about who could be in Trump’s second Cabinet.

The Trump campaign is adamant there have been no “formal discussions” regarding who could serve in a second administration of the former president.

“President Trump will choose the best people for his Cabinet to undo all the damage Crooked Joe Biden has done to our country,” Trump campaign spokesman Steven Cheung told the Washington Examiner.

A source close to the Trump campaign agreed there are “no frontrunners” for the former president’s Cabinet, particularly because he considers it “bad luck” to measure the drapes.

“He’ll make his mind up if he gets to be president,” the source told the Washington Examiner. “Up until Trump’s president, he’s not spending a whole heck of a lot of time on those kind of things.”

I was just pondering Trump's potential cabinet. Some of the ones mentioned above are good, though I hate to see a cabinet drawn from members of Congress, because they then have to be replaced, and we really could use their votes on legislation.

Maybe draw from the private sector as much as possible.

Agreed.  Keep his paws off of the congress.

I doubt he would take it, but Cruz would be deadly as the AG.

Nope.  RINO's are on that list.  As much as Ted is needed in TX he would make on heck of an AG, though I think Trump needs to keep those GOP seated in their spots for a much needed majority and select outsiders or retirees.

Instead of Cruz as attorney general, how about Ken Paxton, who's kinda an "attorney general" already...?

I would hope Trump gives particular attention to the AG matter, this time.

I agree. There is a very slim margin and wee need each of them.

However it's done and whoever is in charge, the DEI offices and positions in every department must be eliminated. Just hire the freaking meat inspectors, USDA, and don't worry about training them about equity and lurking white supremacists.
