Trump Takes Shocking Lead in Top-Level Poll, Completely Shifts Perception of the Race
By Bonchie | 8:59 AM on September 08, 2024

Election watchers woke up to a shock on Sunday after The New York Times and Sienna College released a poll that changed the perception of the presidential race.

Kamala Harris, who entered the race in July after pushing Joe Biden aside, has been leading most polls with the conventional wisdom being that she held a slim if not durable lead. According to this latest survey, though, Trump is beating Harris in both the head-to-head and multi-candidate field.

Anyone else struck by how unlikable Harris is? I mean, I try to be objective when evaluating likability for politicos, but IMO she's just not likable and comes across as a total phony and disingenuous. I would guess women actually don't like her at all.

shallow, superficial, arrogant, entitled  as well - I think she is a hard sell to anybody but the base because she really was selected, not elected and she couldn't win the primaries, so what the hell is she doing as the nominee?

If even Siena, a known reliable Democrat pollster, agrees, you know it's legit.

What could possibly go wrong with running your candidacy with the woman who spectacularly flamed out of the primaries despite being an early frontrunner when she ran, then got nominated as VP literally as a diversity choice... alongside a guy who has the mentality of a middle school bully but the media tries to make him look like this super-relatable everyman? Yet every time he opens his mouth, he has a lowbrow cheapshot against JD Vance that is lower than anything even Trump could cook up against Cruz or DeSantis.

Harris/Walz may be the most unlikable ticket ever, and that includes Donald Trump.

  • Ah, the air is so much fresher here...
She comes across as that snotty arrogant popular girl in school who's daddy had money and thought hers didn't stink, and made life hell for anyone she didn't think was worthy.

Not to mention she reeks of mental instability when she speaks.

Yes, her unpopularity is very evident.  She of course only has to win the electoral vote and I believe they've already got control of that and she will be our next president.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Media outlets desperate for advertising dollars sanction polls with the intent of frightening political candidates into spending more money on advertising.
If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.     -Dwight Eisenhower-

Notice how Siena instructed their employees to pronounce her name properly.  [COMMA-luh]

Trump is coming in weak with the white voters, and it seems to be a pattern.  15 point margin in this poll vs. 20 points in 2016.  This matters if the long-rumored shift in black and hispanic voters fail to materialize again.

To be clear though, a R+1 topline result would probably give Trump all of the swing states and a narrow loss in VA and NH.  The tipping point is around D+2.5 since few of the Harris states are competitive, while places like Florida and Texas are mid single digits.
