Overconfidence led to a Utah National Guard helicopter crash, the pilot was underqualified

A February orientation flight on an Apache helicopter led to a serious crash and caused injuries to multiple people, but the report about what led to the crash is even more damning.

According to Fox 13, the pilot of the helicopter was performing an “orientation flight” on February 12th. The problem was that the pilot was trained for fighter jets and only had 35 minutes of simulator time when it came to helicopters.

There was a more experienced chief warrant officer in the cockpit to oversee the flight. The report noted that warrant officer was “overconfident” and failed to take control of the helicopter at critical moments.

The helicopter crashed from about 10 feet above the ground as it was landing.


Two people were hurt, with one being serious but not life-threatening.

If the younger generations have a fatal flaw, it's overconfidence. Whole lotta hat, not a lotta cattle, and that's why stuff like this happens.
