Donald Trump is outlining his economic platform during a speech in New York City on Thursday.

The former president's policies will include billionaire Elon Musk's recommendation to create a government efficiency commission to conduct 'a complete financial and performance audit of the entire federal government.'

The remarks are meant to more specifically detail Trump's plans for the future of the economy as the issue is often cited by voters as their No. 1 issue this election cycle.

And Trump holds an advantage over Vice President Kamala Harris among voters who think he would better handle the economy and inflation crisis.

Trump's policies are expected to introduce even more aggressive slashing of regulations than he implemented during his first White House term and would likely dramatically rescind unspent funds that President Joe Biden's administration appropriated.

The address comes just five days before Tuesday's debate with Harris in Philadelphia.

'I can't wait. There is a lot of waste and needless regulation in government that needs to go,' Musk tweeted this week amid speculation of his role influencing Trump's economic policies.

Bureau of Government Efficiency is a hilarious oxymoron
Hilarious except in that he probably thinks he's serious.

I'm sure the Federal Government's books are more convoluted than Enron's - with many fiscal liabilities hidden in ledgers outside the normal budgeting process.

Trump plans government efficiency commission proposed by Elon Musk

.

Former President Donald Trump’s latest push to gut the regulatory state is the formation of a government efficiency commission akin to what Tesla founder Elon Musk has proposed.

Trump announced the move Thursday during a speech before the Economic Club of New York. The commission will perform “a complete financial and performance audit of the entire federal government,” Trump told the crowd.

The commission will also make recommendations for “drastic reforms,” including ways to reduce fraud in the federal government and improper payments, he said. Trump said his plan will “save trillions of dollars,” calling the savings “massive.”

News about the commission follows a conversation that Trump had with Musk on X. The SpaceX founder pushed the former president to organize such a task force and volunteered to help with the endeavor.

The proposed commission is just the latest foray into the Republican fight against regulations and the administrative state. Republicans have lambasted President Joe Biden for the raft of rulemaking and use of federal agencies.

They contend that Biden has used rulemaking to shape policy while circumventing congressional authority.

I think this is one of Trump's better selections.  He's selecting from the outside, which is a good thing.

Praying that he gets elected and the transfer of power goes smoothly.

IOW, here comes project 2025 under a different name.

I love it. Trump and Elon, among others, recognize that if the Republic is going to be saved it will take bold action. Gob Bless them both.

Now you are being short sided, and granted generally I am with you 99% of the Time.  Musk hates the federal government largess, and will treat fixing it, like he was ripping Twitter apart.

I figured you'd like this news.

Although I believe it's a worthy and needed job...I can't even imagine the enormity of the task. It would take hundreds of Musks to accomplish it.

As usual the WSJ nails it.

Trump’s Best Idea: Unleashing Elon Musk on Government
The entrepreneur wants to run a commission on government efficiency.

Donald Trump’s speech on the economy last week was as usual a jumble of good (deregulation and taxes), bad (tariffs), and incoherent (child care). But one new idea he floated is a very good one and deserves more attention: The former President said he’d ask Elon Musk to run a Government Efficiency Commission.

Eyes understandably glaze over at the sound of “commission,” which is usually intended to duck a hard issue. The purpose in this case seems to be the opposite—to discover and highlight the countless ways government doesn’t work well, and suggest how to do tasks better, or perhaps not at all.

“I will create a government efficiency commission tasked with conducting a complete financial and performance audit of the entire federal government,” Mr. Trump said in his speech to the Economic Club of New York.

:yowsa: Absolutely! Just as you must actually look for something in order to find it!
