Kamala Harris to Georgia Voter: I Washed My Collard Greens in a Bathtub

Paul Bois 1 Sep 2024

Vice President Kamala Harris told a voter in Savannah, Georgia, last week that she made so many collard greens for a friend’s Christmas party that she washed them in the bathtub.

“I have a friend who had a Christmas Party Christmas Eve every year, and she asked me to make the greens for her party every year. And I am not lying to you, that I would make so many greens, that I’d need to wash them in the bathtub. I’m telling you the truth.” Harris said.

Harris then divulged her recipe, which the voter seemed to appreciate.

“I slice up my garlic, but first I chop up the bacon and get all that fat going, then I put garlic, some chili peppers, and then a lot of water and a little chicken stock, and I let it go for a while before I put the greens in. And then, right? So, you get that going and all that flavor, and then I put the greens in for a couple hours, then I do vinegar, and then I cheat and do a little Tabasco,” she said.

“So that’s how I do my greens,” she concluded.

I doubt she has even tasted collards, much less cooked them.

Collard greens are not what most would consider Indian cuisine, unless she happened to use them in her saag aloo instead of spinach.
I seriously doubt greens are part of Kommiela's family history.

You boil collard greens for two hours? My southern relatives always fried them, along with most everything else.

She washed her greens in the same bathtub she's been washing herself.

If you have to boil anything for two hours, you're eating the wrong part of the oyster.

Why do I get an image that I can't shake of her sitting in a tub of collards? :terror:

And myself, I never cooked greens for 2 hours.

We've done both.  But boiling only when you've added a pound of bacon.  (healthy option  :thud:)

Much better fried with onions, bacon, etc.

I bet there are 10,000 health inspectors nation wide who just blew chunks at this news.

Would you want some collards from a  this lady's tub where she washes her lady parts?

We once pressure cooked some and had the bobble lid pop off and take out several ceiling tiles in the kitchen. Yep, you can fit the entire contents of a pressure cooker though that little breather hole in a matter of 3 seconds flat.

It was a mess.

P.S. No we didn't wash them in the tub, but I don't see where that would be a problem if you scrubbed your tub beforehand.

She has gone from a supposedly sophisticated Indian/Jamaican/Canadian executive type, to an American negro from the South, and now she is an Appalachian hillbilly. Where will she land next? Is Kamala trying to reboot her own version of 'Hee Haw'? Well .. I do declare!!

By the way ... just for the record, nobody washes greens in their bathtub. The old-timey canners all have 5 gallon cooking pots for that. They are very sterile as a matter of health and preservation of the crops. So, not only is she culturally appropriating, but she is factually incorrect in her lying. That is not how it is done. The South (Black or White) is not that stupid. They are not as stupid as Kamala Harris apparently is, if she thinks people actually did that.

Here's a damn fine collards and black-eyed pea soup recipe.  You can use ham hocks, but for the price and convenience, I prefer this:

Black-eyed Pea and Collard Greens Soup
--------------------------------------

Ingredients:

4 cups dried black-eyed peas
2 tbs extra virgin olive oil
2 large yellow onion, chopped
4 cloves garlic, finely chopped
4 oz ham base (or a couple of ham hocks)
4 stalks celery, chopped
12 cups chicken broth
1 huge or (2 regular) bunch(es) collard greens, leaves thinly sliced.  Don't wash in tub.
8 carrots, chopped
½ tsp salt
½ tsp black pepper
1 tbs turmeric  (must have)
dash cayenne pepper

Put peas in bowl, cover with water, and let set for 8 hrs.
Drain and rinse well.

- Heat oil over medium heat in large soup pot.
- Add onion, garlic, celery, and ham base.
- Cook until onion is translucent (5-8 minutes).
- Add peas and broth, bring to boil.  If using ham hocks instead of base, add now.
- Reduce heat and simmer, partially covered until peas are tender (approx 45 minutes).
- Add collards, carrots, and spices and simmer until tender (approx 15-20 minutes)

Easy to make.  Tastes fabulous.
