There's no point in blaming Mr. Trump for saying this.
The issue of abortion has become a true millstone around the neck of Republicans.
Quite frankly, it's now a losing issue for them in practically every state battleground so far. And it's going to get worse, as the left has succeeded in getting "pro-abortion referendums" on almost all the ballots of the crucial swing states this election.
And what do Republicans and conservatives have to blame for that "millstone"?
Why, nothing less than the Dobbs decision itself.
Dobbs has done MORE THAN Roe to liberalize abortion, even in the most conservative states (because these states mostly have the vector of popular initiative by which to add laws to the state books, and even state constitutional amendments, as is going to happen in Florida).
Under Roe, the fetus at least had the protection of the state in the third trimester, and at least some protection (depending on the state) in the second trimester.
NOT SO post-Roe.
Since the issue is now "back in the hands of the states", there are NO Roe-related restrictions that remain. Didn't someone mention above that the Florida constitutional amendment will permit abortion until birth?
You're not going to like what I say next:
The pro-life movement has lost.
They will never again control this issue.
Essentially, the arguments over abortion ARE OVER in America, in the vast majority of states. The leftists won.
And what vanquished the pro-lifers was NOT Roe.
It was Dobbs.I posted about this for years on this forum (and on the other one when I was there). Nobody would listen to the suggestion that ending Roe might produce worse results than keeping it.
Ultimately, abortion seems to be something that most women want available, whether they use it as an option or not.
So long as women have the vote, it's an option that is not going to be taken away from them.
