Report: Harris to Finally Sit for a First Interview this Week

Wendell Husebø 26 Aug 2024

Vice President Kamala Harris will purportedly sit for an interview this week as part of her campaign’s ramped-up strategy heading into the post-Labor Day push, Axios reported Monday.

Harris has not held an unscripted press conference or unscripted sit-down interview about policy solutions for 36 days since joining the presidential race.

The media have not interviewed Harris on television since June 24, 2024, and the last time the press reportedly questioned her at a solo news conference was eight months ago, on December 2, 2023.

Harris might be avoiding the media for two reasons. First, the Harris campaign might be worried about its candidate’s likability and her ability to speak off the cuff about policies without delivering a devastating gaffe. Here is a sampling of Harris’s word salads.

Second, the Harris campaign is stuck in a “catch-22.” Speaking about policies to fix crime, inflation, and border security would undermine the Biden-Harris administration’s claim of having solved those key issues. Yet Harris must tout the administration’s policy successes to validate her record and candidacy. More is here on Harris’s radical record.

The media still do not know much about the details of the potential interview. Axios reported Harris would “sit for her first interview as a presidential candidate and ramp up preparations for her Sept. 10 debate against Trump,” while Politico Playbook speculated about which media member the campaign would select to conduct the interview.

“Already we’re hearing chatter about who she will choose to conduct the interview: a known friendly face who she can expect will take it easy on her?” Playbook asked. “Or, in a bid to erase memories of her rocky LESTER HOLT interview in 2021, a member of a vaunted legacy media outlet who will give her a tougher grilling? Place your bets. We should find out in days.”

Harris’s ramped-up campaign will also include a bus tour in southern Georgia, a sunbelt swing state in which Trump maintains a solid lead. Seven states — Michigan, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Arizona, Georgia, Nevada, and North Carolina — will decide the presidential election, political experts predict.

Just what I am looking forward to....  15 mnutes of puff focusing on schools buses, venn diagrams, and the basic logic of a stoner.    :thud:

She'll be fed the questions before hand and not come off by a raving looney toon. I think she's just smart enough to stay on script...especially in a soft ball interview.

News that VP Harris and Gov Walz are going to do a JOINT interview with CNN….I wish they would do separate interviews - that is better for interviewer to ask follow up questions…

The woman who wants to be the first female president of the United States can’t do an interview on her own? Interesting…and embarrassing.

I think it tends to make women look weak that VP brings someone else (her running mate) to her first interview …she should do this herself. #VPHarris

She's incompetent to sit for an interview by herself, even with a groupie like Bash, so she'll take "Coach" along.

Harris and Walz to sit with CNN for exclusive first joint interview since campaign began

Washington CNN  —  Vice President Kamala Harris and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz will sit with CNN for their first joint interview on Thursday as Democrats work to broaden their base’s excitement from last week’s Democratic National Convention.

The interview, conducted by CNN’s chief political correspondent and anchor Dana Bash, will air at 9 p.m. ET on Thursday. It occurs as the candidates embark on a bus tour through the battleground state of Georgia and marks the first time Harris has sat with a journalist for an in-depth, on-the-record conversation since President Joe Biden dropped his bid for a second term and endorsed her on July 21.

The 37 days since her candidacy began have generated a swell of enthusiasm and momentum for Harris, including at last week’s convention in Chicago. But her lack of a formal news conference or interview has generated criticism from her Republican rivals. Thursday’s interview fulfils a vow she made earlier in August to schedule a sit-down before the end of the month.  .“I think it’s really disgraceful, both for Kamala Harris but also for a lot of the American media that participates in this stuff, to have a person who has been the presumptive nominee of the Democrat Party for 17 days and refuses to take a single question from the American media,” Vance said in Wisconsin earlier this month.  ...

After over a month of not doing an interview, Harris' big sit-down will be with superfan Dana Bash and it won't even be solo.
What a pathetic candidate.

Oh, yeah - it won't be live, so Dana can do all the editing necessary to make Harris appear coherent.

Why is Walz there?

Is Harris afraid to stand on her own two feet?  Does she need Walz to take half the questions so she talks less?

After refusing to do any interviews and hiding for a month, Harris still won’t sit for a 1:1 interview.

She is weak and not ready for the job.

I'll bet that is true. Of course, I'll never know. I have to clean the commodes that night. Why watch? It won't be a real interview.

They could do it like a Biden speech: in bits and pieces, all stitched together, with all the crazy edited out.

This is a training wheels interview if there ever was one.
Her handlers don’t trust her enough to send her out solo.
It’s the equivalent of kids’ bumpers in the gutters at the bowling alley. They’re trying to foolproof it.
