A Ypsilanti woman has been sentenced to 22 to 40 years in prison for the fatal shooting of another woman during a baby shower in Detroit.

Shawanda Woods, 44, shot and killed Phebian Williams on Oct. 15 after an argument escalated, according to Wayne County prosecutors. Woods pulled out a gun and shot Williams in the neck, and police found Williams, 53, dead in the kitchen of a home in the 15600 block of Edmore Drive.

Woods was convicted in a jury trial of second-degree murder and felony firearm. She received a 20- to 40-year sentence Friday for the murder charge and a consecutive two-year sentence for the felony firearm charge.

Woods fled to the Detroit Police Department’s 9th Precinct after the shooting and Williams’ son, Leandre Love, followed her and hit her with his car in the parking lot as she was getting out of her car. She was taken to the hospital in serious condition.
