The World Health Organization on Wednesday declared mpox a global public health emergency for the second time in two years, following an outbreak of the virus in parts of Africa.

That comes as health officials also warn of a sharp rise in cases in Toronto.

On Tuesday, the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced that the mpox outbreaks were a public health emergency, with more than 500 deaths so far this year, and called for international help to stop the virus’s spread.

(A) new variant, Clade Ib, appears to spread more easily through routine close contact, including sexual contact. (...) Unlike in previous mpox outbreaks, where lesions were mostly seen on the chest, hands and feet, the new form causes milder symptoms and lesions on the genitals. That makes it harder to spot, meaning people might also sicken others without knowing they’re infected, officials said.

At present, it seems to be mainly in Africa, and to a significant degree spread during sex. People not travelling to Africa (specifically Sub-Saharan?) and not having sex with tourists from (or returning from) Africa seem to be at very low risk.

It's kind of surprising that WHO imagines they have credibility. Maybe in countries that don't remember WHO shilling China's Covid lies in January 2020?

And don't remember WHO's panic-mongering Monkeypox 1.0 in 2022, which was largely spread by gay promiscuity?

IIRC, that was a desperate call for more ventilators needed, especially by Cuomo. They neglected to say they had fifteen thousand of them sitting on the shelf. Trump responded to a need that was conveyed to him, and the absence of that need is on the people who told him it was present.
Those so-called "medical experts" fomented that situation.

One of the clear signs that the 'problem' was not as severe as it was being hyped was the absence of patients in the field hospitals and on the hospital ships, which were deployed to meet a communicated need, which turned out to not be the case. It was easier to kill old folks in the homes.
If we have a disease where they will help, they are there.

Cuomo must have had Trump's number. Trump also sent Navy Hospital ships and built multiple field hospitals to NY, all a waste of $$$$$.

1. It was a (failed) partisan Gotcha-Trump that ...

2. ... also smoke-screened the State of NY having sold off a bunch of ventilators NY didn't want to pay to maintain.

3. Cuomo and other Dem wolf-criers did not anticipate how swiftly Trump and private industry could - and did -respond.

4. There was no way that Cuomo and the Mayor of NYC was going to give visibility to Samaritan's Purse's swift response and readily available expertise! Because Franklin Graham and because Evangelical Christians!

5. Justice still denied.
