Van Jones: Harris Is Getting More Attention, Doesn’t Need to Talk to Press Right Now

On Monday’s broadcast of CNN’s “AC360,” CNN Senior Political Commentator Van Jones argued that 2024 Democratic presidential candidate Vice President Kamala Harris is getting the most attention right now and doesn’t need to talk to reporters right now because “if it ain’t broke, why fix it? She’s got a convention coming up. She’s going to go up another point or two. And then she can talk to a reporter.”

Jones began by saying that 2024 Republican presidential candidate former President Donald Trump is “not getting as much attention as Kamala Harris.”

He added that Harris is “doing exactly what she needs to do.” And is “going to talk to a reporter” in the future and he would talk to one if he was her.

After citing Harris’ interview with CNN right after the June presidential debate, he added, “I’m not worried about her talking to a reporter. But right now, if it ain’t broke, why fix it? She’s got a convention coming up. She’s going to go up another point or two. And then she can talk to a reporter. But you are watching a masterclass in politics happening from the most underestimated politician in America. Meanwhile, this juggernaut is falling apart.”

He’s right

The losing candidate is the one that wants to talk the most

I see all these articles of people hyperventilating how she’s not talking to reporters. She doesn’t have to. All she has to do is make sure that she’s got a strong get out the vote drive in the urban areas  in  swing states. That’s it. She knows and the DNC  knows she’s not going to win the rural areas of the country.

This is not a party that’s motivated by issues except maybe abortion and socialism. It’s identity. Nobody is crazy enough to believe that minority and young voters are going to come out in droves to vote for a cranky old white guy who starting to show his age vs a fairly young and motivated female minority candidate. She is following the Obama playbook. And that’s why she will win. And Trump will not sweep the suburbs enough to overcome that. Go ahead and make things like inflation and the border an issue. But that didn’t work in the 2022 midterms against the nursing home patient president

She could shoot somebody on 5th Avenue and her supporters will still come out and vote for her. There’s a cult of personality starting to form around her so any dreams that they’re going to dump her at the convention or there’s gonna be riots like Chicago in 1968 are all pipe dreams. They’ll be a few token protests at the Democratic convention. But she’s gonna come out of that convention stronger than she went in. Trump is old news. And 2016 he was a new and novel item. He is now Hillary Clinton with a penis.

 I believe the Republicans may hold onto the house and could possibly take the Senate. At least we’ll get a divided government out of the deal
