Wikipedia has become embroiled in a political dispute after a single user edited U.S. Senator J.D. Vance’s page, removing references to his military awards earned during his deployment to Iraq. The edits, made between July 28th and July 30th, 2024, deleted mentions of the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, and Navy and Marine Corps Sea Service Deployment Ribbon. This move has sparked outrage, as it is seen as part of a broader political battle between Democrats and Republicans.

On July 28th, Vance’s Wikipedia page listed his military service record as follows:

Branch/Service: United States Marine Corps
Years of Service: 2003–2007
Rank: Corporal
Unit: 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing
Battles/Wars: Iraq War
Awards:
Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal

Navy and Marine Corps Sea Service Deployment Ribbon This record reflected his four-year service in the Marine Corps, during which he was deployed to Iraq as part of the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing. The awards listed were standard recognitions for service members who participated in the Iraq War and other related operations during that period.



Wow, they've been removed again because when I checked
last night the medals had been restored,I even commented
on it on a post...

The Wikimedia Foundation should be investigated for bias on their platform. Aren't they supposed to be a "non-partisan" non-profit?

This is a link to J. D. Vance's DD-214, https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/25030454-resp-docs-1pgred-24-3265 . He served under the family name "Hamel" and some time after discharge changed his name to Vance (his upbringing was messy). Box 13 gives his various awards and recognitions ... nothing heroic, but he doesn't exaggerate his service. He served, including a deployment to Iraq.

Yep...Wiki did the exact same thing to Mastriano when he was running for governor of Pennsylvania.  The liberal admin editors said that they weren't relevant and ban-hammered anybody who tried to undo their edits and deletions.
