The United States could exhaust its munitions stockpile in as little as three to four weeks during a protracted war with China, according to a new report that exposed the problems Washington will face in any future global conflict.

I doubt the [former] "United" States has the manufacturing capacity to support a long, protracted war with a major adversary.

It's just... gone.
As are the skilled workers to staff such factories...

Or, for that matter, people who can be 'retrained' to produce materiel.

All those farm girls and housewives of the 30s and 40s knew how to do manual labor, even just 'keeping house' involved much more then. The renaissance of the household appliance didn't happen until the 50s.
