I won't go into all the details, but I was in my late 20's and was in terrible pain. Long story very short, I was passed from doctor to doctor to doctor and then was told I needed mental evaluation....still in terrible horrific pain (two years had passed).
Lo and behold, my husband's health insurance changed and voila the doctor that did the mental questionnaire/evaluation stated that I needed surgery. Oh, the anger, and if I were a guy, I would have hauled off and decked him one (and I am normally a very calm person). I was scheduled for surgery within two weeks!!
Perhaps you may see this as more to do with a change in insurance, but the way I was treated as a young female with 2 very young children was shameful, disgusting and should have never happened.
In addition, unfortunately, they preformed surgery on the wrong part -- my father hired an attorney and they sent the attorney medical notes with massive amounts of white out on my medical records!
Later in life -- I have been through numerous doctors of different sorts, tests, treatments and to this day, I still have idiot doctors who won't admit to being wrong.
Yes, men get treated much more differently and women are still stereotyped as hysterical. Several times (including recently) I have fought to get a correct diagnosis because of the male doctor's ego and male superiority mentality!!!
