Georgia Republicans are doing their best to look forward rather than backward amid an intraparty spat that just won’t go away.

Former President Donald Trump, GOP presidential nominee, and Gov. Brian Kemp (R-GA) have had beef since late 2020, when Kemp refused to entertain Trump’s stolen election claims. The two have never really aligned since then, a feud that cropped up again over the weekend.

“Brian Kemp should focus his efforts on fighting crime, not fighting unity and the Republican Party,” Trump posted on Truth Social on Aug. 3. “He should be seeking unity, not retribution, especially against the man that got him the nomination through endorsement and, without whom, he could never have beaten Stacey Abrams.”

Trump followed his post up with a series of attacks on Kemp and Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger during a rally in Atlanta, prompting each of them to fire back via social media.

“My focus is on winning this November and saving our country from Kamala Harris and the Democrats – not engaging in petty personal insults, attacking fellow Republicans, or dwelling on the past,” Kemp posted on X. “You should do the same, Mr. President, and leave my family out of it.”

This is one of the dumbest things Trump could have done.  It reminded people --- specifically, white suburbanites north of Atlanta --- why they voted for someone else or stayed home in 2020.   
 Besides the attack on Kemp's wife, the thing that bothers me the most is sharing details (likely embellished) of private discussions.  Who the hell wants to engage Trump in conversation, let alone work for him, if he's just going to broadcast everything to the world? 

All his campaign had to do was carry the 2020 states plus Georgia and Pennsylvania.  Harris gave him a gift today.  There is no excuse for losing this election.

With that being stated, there is something to be said for standing behind Trump and showing that the GOP is united; just like the DEMS stand behind their candidates.  The DEMS stand united behind their own, regardless of how flawed they may be and that is why they continue to win.

Trump is becoming more unhinged as time goes on as I had feared. Though understandably he was shot at!! He's been through so much and most people would have cracked long before now.

Certainly Harris isn't exactly a threat and she really hasn't accomplished a darn thing as VP and her prior record is pretty darn liberal. 

Walz record is grim.  Both are progressives.

Trump can hit a home run into the WH if he just stays focused on his accomplishments and his path forward for the country. 

Provided we have an election with some integrity, Trump's seat in the WH has his name written all over it.

Trump probably believes that his 2016 behaviors didn’t matter as he still won  and therefore he can repeat them

But he’s not facing Hillary Clinton. Clinton completely blew off Wisconsin and the closer it got to the election, the lazier Hillary Clinton got because she was overconfident of her victory. But even with that, the gap between Hillary and Trump in 2016 in states like Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin was about the narrowest of margins

Maybe it’s time to write the presidential race off and concentrate on down ticket races so there’s at least a buffer against Kamala Harris’s left-wing instincts. And that Arizona seat is going left unfortunately

Seems that's the case down Georgia way.

The top Republicans in the state AREN'T going to help him.

So... my prediction for Georgia going for Mr. Trump will be no better than 50-50, perhaps even a little less. Far from an easy win.

Due to Atlanta and continuing demographic changes, Georgia is "turning"...
... soon to become a blue state (again).

What's the point of focusing on Harris if you're just going to let her steal the State again?

I don't agree with his method, but Trump isn't wrong, and it's going to happen again if the GOP and Rep officials sit on their hands.

His mistake was that he should have attacked Raffensberger and encouraged Kemp to step in this time if it happens.

Trump desperately needs a ground game.  Unfortunately, he doesn't see it.  He has blown off local level politics since entering the race in 2015.

The problem that Trump is facing is, unlike 2016, he’s not the new and novel item. Nobody wanted a repeat of 2020 rematch between Donald Trump and Joe Biden and now Harris is the new and shiny object for people to chase.

This is the problem Hillary Clinton faced as time went on, and that is why there was no way she was going to replace Joe Biden.


Since the election of 2008, the only requirement to getting elected POTUS is you have to be… shiny and new
