The gigantic scale of floating wind turbines quantified

By David Wojick .

My regular readers know that I have often referred to the sheer size of floating wind turbine assemblies. They are much larger than fixed offshore wind turbine assemblies because they have a large float attached to them. This makes floating wind much more expensive than fixed wind, which is already much more expensive than reliable fuel-fired electrical energy.
According to simple physics, a 2,000-ton generator must be placed on a 150-meter-high tower, with three 90-meter-high wings attached to a boat, and the boat must also be able to withstand hurricane force winds.

Fortunately, Philip Lewis of strategic analyst Intelatus has put together some figures about this nonsense in Offshore Engineer.

These things aren't going to work very long.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

When talking about eco-madness, such concerns as safety, reliability, and potential problems isn't allowed by the left. **nononono* They like surprises. :headbang:

You mean "unintended consequences" and "unforeseen difficulties"?
