I've been saying from the start of this:  Crew Dragon will rescue the trapped astronauts.

Given the option of returning on the Dragon or Starliner, which would YOU choose?

Having said that, can the Starliner be returned under its own power WITHOUT a crew on board?

Or... if the problems can't be resolved... could it be "cast off" to just float away?

I won't "float away."  It would have to be de-orbited and destroyed.

That and Mir are the reason all satellite owners must maintain an Escrow Account so the money will be there to de-orbit.  I used to work for Motorola, and when Iridium failed, we had to crash all the birds.
