Yes, the woman is nuts. Simply enough, stop hydraulic fracturing, and in 5 years Natural Gas prices will be insane. That affects the Marcellus and Utica, putting the rust belt in a sharp bust. Not only there, but every 'shale' play out there, and, for that matter, old style vertical wells as well as the laterals. Wells in the early part of the Bakken play, in Richland County, MT, made 2-300 BOPD unfracced, but gave initial production of over 1000 BOPD after a frac.
That was in the beginning of the Bakken Boom, Other wells had Initial production of over 5,000 BOPDe, and ones I worked topped 3,000 BOPDe when put on line.
But without the ability to induce fractures in tight formations, which is what fraccing does (roughly two miles down, around these parts, and behind three strings of casing cemented in place, the last through the 'curve' of the well and into the pay zone), the oil will not come through low permeability rock at a rate which will make drilling and producing those wells profitable. When that happens, there will be little drilling here in the US, and the price of energy will go up--ESPECIALLY if the dollar loses reserve currency status, which it could if 'they' keep 'printing' them at the rate that has been done in the last 5 years. Then our dollars will have to be converted into some other currency to purchase oil we could have produced right here at home, if not for STUPID regulations.
