Kamala Harris has always done the bidding of donors: Peter Schweizer
Multiple media outlets insisted Vice President Kamala Harris wasn’t the "border czar" despite being put in charge of the border crisis when she took office, including Axios, which used that exact phrasing in its own past reporting.

Harris was tasked early on in the Biden administration with addressing the root causes of mass migration from Central and South America. That part of her portfolio has emerged as a cornerstone of GOP-led attacks against the de facto Democratic presidential nominee, as states across the country continue to struggle with the migrant crisis.
 
However, media outlets have suddenly taken issue with the "border czar" moniker that Republicans used to describe her role as Harris heads toward the Democratic White House nomination, suggesting it's unfair to pin the thorny issue of illegal immigration on her.

CNN senior fact checker Daniel Dale said on Thursday that the media incorrectly labeled Vice President Kamala Harris the “border czar.”

Media outlets rushed to erase their own reporting to downplay Harris’ role in managing the border crisis by saying she is solely responsible for addressing “root causes” in Latin American countries. Dale continued with this recent trend by saying the media wrongfully portrayed Harris as the “border czar.”

“He [former President Donald Trump] said she was Joe Biden’s border czar. She wasn’t,” Dale said. “She was never put in charge of the border. She was given a much more limited assignment to lead a so-called root causes diplomatic effort trying to address the reasons in Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras that people choose to migrate. And many Republicans’ scoff at this kind of fact check, saying there were a bunch of articles back in 2021 calling her the border czar. Frankly, those articles were wrong.”

Axios reporter Stef W. Kight’s article, “Harris border confusion haunts her new campaign,” received a community note on “X” which pointed out how the outlet used the border czar label for Harris in 2021. Axios reporter Shawna Chen published a piece in April 2021 titled, “Harris, appointed by Biden as ‘border czar,’ said she would be looking at the ‘root causes’ that drive migration.”

The Associated Press published a piece pushing back against the “border czar” title for Harris, though the outlet reported that Harris’ role was “to lead response to border challenges” in an article published on March 24, 2021. Politico reported characterized Harris as the White House’s “point person” on immigration issues pertaining to the U.S.-Mexico border in another piece March 24, 2021.

The New York Times reported in April 2021 that Harris would replace Roberta S. Jacobson, who the article described as the previous “border czar.”

The WH announced back in early 2021 that Kanswalla was appointed point man on the border.  She would lead the biden admins efforts to stem illegal border crossings?

Time and time again over the last several years I heard Harris was the border czar. Not once did I hear the admin deny it. Until now.

Vice President Harris said Wednesday she plans to visit Mexico and Guatemala "as soon as possible" in a diplomatic effort to address surging migration at the U.S.-Mexico border, Reuters reports.

Why it matters: The number of unaccompanied minors crossing the border has reached crisis levels. Harris, appointed by Biden as border czar, said she would be looking at the "root causes" that drive migration.

What she's saying: "Our focus is to deal with the root causes, and I am looking forward to traveling, hopefully as my first trip, to the Northern Triangle, stopping in Mexico and then going to Guatemala," Harris said at a virtual roundtable with experts on Wednesday, per Reuters.  .  .

As California attorney general, Harris had to deal with a major influx of unaccompanied minors at the state's border with Mexico in 2014.

It is a task that carries political risks for Harris, a potential future presidential candidate. Border woes have been an intractable problem for multiple presidents.

The same people who told us how Sarah Palin could see Russia from her house or how Trump told everyone to shoot up with bleach are now desperately trying to clear up the record about Kamala's 'border czar' title.

For what it's worth, if Kamala was never tasked with halting the illegal immigration flow, then exactly what has she been put in charge of over the last 3½ years?

Notice how they substitute percentages in place of real numbers.  Sure the fraction representing the Triangle countries was down compared to all other countries.  But the actual numbers?

2021 - 683,894

2023 - 704,252

And these are just the ones that the federal government knows about.  So in Harris' only job since becoming VP, she was completely ineffective in reducing illegal immigration from Honduras, Guatemala, and El Salvador.
