All Democratic governors fall in line to support Kamala Harris
Harris has quickly cleared the deck of Democratic governors who were seen as potential challengers.

All of the nearly two-dozen Democratic governors have now endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris to be the party’s presidential nominee. McKee, the Rhode Island governor, is the last. He wrote in an X post that Harris “is ready to serve and we’re ready to do all we can to make it happen.”
Harris quickly cleared the deck on Monday of Democratic governors who were seen as potential challengers for the now-open nomination. Several of them are now being viewed as her potential running mates.
Some governors are hustling to prove their loyalty to the likely new party standard-bearer. New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy told Harris earlier today that “we’ll do whatever it takes” to get her elected and plans to lead a call tonight with the state’s Democratic National Convention delegates to deliver them for the vice president. Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear also got his state’s delegates on board. And Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer said she will co-chair Harris’ campaign (and that she’s not interested in VP).
But others were slower to announce their support. Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey, who was a surrogate for Biden’s campaign and was the first Democratic governor to publicly call on him to reevaluate his bid, was one of the last to endorse Harris. She was followed by Katie Hobbs, the governor of swing-state Arizona. Hobbs, who called Sunday for the party to engage in “thorough debate and deliberation to choose our nominee,” issued a two-sentence follow-up statement on Monday endorsing Harris.
