New York Times Board Wants Kamala Harris Out of the Race

Neil Munro 21 Jul 2024

The New York Times (NYT) editorial board wants Vice President Kamala Harris off the 2024 ticket because of “profound concerns” about her electability.

The push to dump the nation’s first black vice president was posted just after President Joe Biden announced he would not run in the 2024 election — and it could threaten Democratic turnout in November.

The board first provided some throat-clearing praise for Biden:

By agreeing to step down when his term ends in January, he is greatly increasing the chance that his party is able to protect the nation from the dangers of returning Donald Trump to the presidency.

Then it dropped the hammer:

Choosing Ms. Harris would be a reasonable path for Democrats to take; she has been Mr. Biden’s running mate, and while no votes were cast for her as a presidential candidate in primaries, the president’s voters expected her to be on the ticket in November.

Nonetheless, party delegates should have a voice in a decision of this consequence. There are other qualified Democrats who could take on Mr. Trump and win, and picking a candidate without a real contest is how the party got into a position of anointing a standard-bearer that large majorities of Democrats and independents had profound concerns about. While the hour is late, there is still time to put leading candidates through a process of public scrutiny before the party’s nominating convention begins on Aug. 19, to inform the choice of a nominee and to build public support.

Quote
President Biden’s decision to exit the 2024 presidential election is a fitting coda for a man whose life has been devoted to public service. Mr. Biden has served the nation well as its president. By agreeing to step down when his term ends in January, he is greatly increasing the chance that his party is able to protect the nation from the dangers of returning Donald Trump to the presidency.

Majorities of Americans have consistently said they did not believe Mr. Biden could lead the nation for another term, citing longstanding fears about his age and fitness that have only grown in recent months. Had he remained at the top of the ticket, he would have greatly increased the likelihood of Mr. Trump retaking the presidency and potentially controlling both houses of Congress as well. Mr. Biden himself has consistently warned that specter presents a profound threat to the nation and its democratic traditions.

Mr. Biden has now done what Mr. Trump never will: He has placed the national interest above his own pride and ambition.

(snip)

Choosing Ms. Harris would be a reasonable path for Democrats to take; she has been Mr. Biden’s running mate, and while no votes were cast for her as a presidential candidate in primaries, the president’s voters expected her to be on the ticket in November.

Nonetheless, party delegates should have a voice in a decision of this consequence. If they didn't want avoid taking a chance on peeling open the whole Obama/Birth Certificate thing, all they have to do is show why she is not a Natural Born Citizen (parents were not citizens at the time of her birth).

Only if you really believe the Founders, who operated within the Common Law tradition when they wrote the Constitution, somehow didn't mean by natural born citizen a republican analogue of the British Common Law concept of natural born subject, and instead were meaning the notion a Swiss writer called "natives".  Blackstone, rather than Vattel, is the correct intepreter of the notion and anyone who was a citizen from birth is a natural born citizen.
And when they behead your own people in the wars which are to come, then you will know what this was all about.

The NYT editorial board are not aware of her absolute brilliance!

Harris had to have a “mock dinner” before going to a real dinner party because she knew she’d be in over her head.

To add to Smokin' Joe's post above...

If the New York Times REALLY wants kamala "out of the race", all it has to do is publish a series of articles examining the issues she has with being a natural-born-citizen.

Once the Times latches onto this, watch all the other media outlets follow suit.

But UNTIL the Times is willing to do this, their efforts don't even reach "the half serious" level...

The  Time will fall in line.  Just wait for it.  They will be loving up to her like Willie Brown going downtown.
