Mayor London Breed said a “very aggressive” sweep of San Francisco homeless encampments will start in August, after a recent Supreme Court ruling cleared the path for widespread enforcement.

In June, the Supreme Court ruled that enforcing rules against homeless people for sleeping outside doesn’t violate the Eighth Amendment’s “cruel and unusual punishment” clause.

On Thursday, Breed celebrated the ruling and said the city plans to change its protocols and may begin issuing criminal penalties against homeless people.

Yeah, well, show me the cleaner streets and parks.

No, she's just mouthing the words.  At the end of the day, it won't happen - the California courts will find it to be a violation of the state constitution.

Breed came into office promising to deal with the problem of homeless and miscellaneous druggies and thuggies on SF's streets. Maybe she was earnest and learned about the now-overturned Boise decision up close and personal. Maybe she was an above average demagogue. August is just a couple of weeks away, so we may see which - or both? - she is.
