The Biden camp clapback comes on the heels of mounting speculation that the president’s own party might be turning on him due to concerns about his mental and physical fitness.

His handlers are making the decisions.  I don't think Joe's been making decisions lately or perhaps not even most of his presidency.

The rub, I think, is that he has to go along with it and make a formal statement. If he digs in, his handlers can’t do much.

And then there is this - they might be weighing the best way to keep the White House. Even if they believe they can’t win with FJB, they KNOW they can’t win with Kamala. So, the play might be to ride Joe and dump him after he wins.  Voila!  President Harris.

(I doubt all of that but it could be their best play if they determine Kamala is their only option.)
