"I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo.

"So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us."

Mitch McConnell and Karl Rove did their best to keep him out of the Senate and failed. That SHOULD write you a book.

If McConnell couldn't keep him out of the Senate that's pretty much all I need to know.

Thoughts: Vance is highly intelligent, served our country in uniform with great distinction, and has a wonderful young family. His bestselling memoir was searing, vulnerable, and insightful. His experiences, some painful and difficult, will resonate with many Americans.

Politically, I…don’t love it. Committed Trump fans are loving the choice, but Trump already has a hyped up, highly motivated base in his column no matter what, especially after this weekend. I’m not sure if a voter exists who was conflicted on Trump but is motivated or reassured by Vance as the pick. I don’t see a tent expansion here. Trump may not need that, but he might.

Vance is very young (my age), just joined the Senate last year (having notably underperformed other Ohio R’s on the ticket), and has little-to-no executive experience. He’s from the same “wing” of the party as Trump, after defecting from the opposite wing, in a number of ways.

Is he a plausible POTUS on day one? Critics will go after that question (of course on the other side, they’ve got an unpopular Harris)  & will also highlight some of Vance’s quotes over recent years— both about Trump himself and a few hot button issues. It’s Trump’s choice alone, of course, and he may feel like the pick doesn’t really matter much. His supporters will say to trust Trump’s judgment on this. We’ll see if voters agree, or react in any significant way to this at all. Trump has doubled down on populism/base politics here. I don’t see it as the most advantageous pick for him politically, but it is what it is.

The Left will be eager to define Vance in as negative a light as possible, asap. Vance will need to introduce himself to America in a compelling way. As I said, he’s very smart and can be quite impressive in interviews. Let’s see how he performs moving forward, starting on Wednesday night. Huge platform, huge opportunity.

Who would Americans trust more to take over as President if needed?  Cackles or JD Vance

The prospect of President Cackles is a concern for those thinking about voting for Biden.

This was great to watch.  It's not often you get to see a member of the Lame Stream Liberal Media get called out ... to his face ... live.

I loved it!!!  Gotta love Don.  I love how candid he is.  "Get out of here" was pretty blunt but definitely needed to be said.

I have a feeling Jacob Soboroff will be told to "screw" many times this week.  Everything that comes out of his mouth is a Biden/Dem speaking point.

With the Vance selection as VP, permit me to be the first person to encourage Gov DeWine to appoint Vivek Ramaswamy to replace him in the Senate come January. Vivek clearly displayed during the presidential campaign his brilliance and understanding of many key issues. However, his lack of résumé politically didn’t allow him to catch on anywhere, except on this app. This would give him a chance to prove himself, and I am eager to see him put that brilliance to the test while actually helping to govern the country.

Really??

https://amp.cnn.com/cnn/2018/01/09/politics/mitch-mcconnell-jd-vance-ohio-senate

CNN) Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has spoken to "Hillbilly Elegy" author JD Vance about a potential run for Senate in Ohio following GOP candidate Josh Mandel's unexpected departure from the race last week, a source familiar with the call confirmed to CNN.

And this article says that Mitch McConnell was worried enough about JD Vance’s  chances in Ohio that he poured $28 million worth of advertising in Ohio in 2022

https://www.wvxu.org/politics/2022-08-24/analyis-j-d-vance-mitch-mcconnell-slf-fund-pac

Doesn’t sound like Mitch McConnell worked very hard to keep JD Vance out of the Senate

VP Kamala Harris has called Sen. JD Vance after Trump announced him as his running mate, JD Vance did not answer and instead sent her to voicemail where she left a message, ABC reports 🤣

I know Vivek is from Ohio, but didn't know he still lived there. If so, I suppose he'd be an okay pick. Lt. Gov. Husted or Atty. Gen. Dave Yost also might be good (or even better than Vivek).

BE on the lookout any day now for when joe calls Vance, Pence when referring to the GOP VP.
