Just make less armored, smaller drone tanks... Much lower cost if there isn't a need to protect people in them.

And yes, that "terminator" future seems to be approaching...

The military, without a war, has traditionally been a welfare provider and insurance carrier it can react appropriately in case of another Pearl Harbor.  When the need for such equipment as tanks will come isn't always obvious.  The need for the industry might seem unnecessary now, but it's better than looking at a 500-pound bomb falling on your head from 20,000 feet because the military let itself waste away and become impotent.

  • I was a "conspiracy theorist". Now I'm just right.
Drone/counterdrone tech is still young.

The tank will always have a place, if nothing else than something for grunts to hid behind or under. Plus, there is that gun...

In the meantime, we're also seeing how infantry are being targeted with drones, too. That won't make the individual soldier obsolete, but it will make their jobs harder until counter drone systems catch up.
