Sanctuary Cities Are Desperately Putting the Clamps On Shelter Programs

Democrat mayors are beginning to reverse course on their policies to shelter hordes of illegal aliens in their sanctuary cities. They are currently rolling back these programs as communities have grown sharply critical of them and have had to incur massive costs to accommodate them.

New York City, Chicago, and Denver — all “sanctuary” cities for foreign migrants residing illegally in the US — have moved forward with policy changes for their migrant shelters in the last few months in light of mounting financial costs in dealing with those migrants. According to a Daily Caller report, taxpayers in these cities have forked over north of $1 billion to shelter and feed hundreds of thousands of migrants in the past several years.

“Never in my life have I had a problem that I didn’t see an ending to. I don’t see an ending to this,” New York City Mayor Eric Adams declared back in a September 2023 town hall, decrying how NYC was being flooded with up to “10,00 migrants a month” at that juncture.

“This issue will destroy New York City,” he added. “Every community in this city is going to be impacted. We have a $12 billion deficit that we’re going to have to cut – every service in this city is going to be impacted.”
