The transformative power of human ingenuity — coupled with the harnessing of natural resources, particularly coal, natural gas, and oil — has spurred remarkable progress.

Indeed.  The only possible replacement is nuclear energy, which should be being pushed hard. 

The one thing the climate alarmists have pointed out which is correct is that the earth's climate is not stable.  We cannot assume it will remain in the pleasant state it has been in since the end of the Little Ice Age in 1850 or so, or even in the more or less pleasant state it has been in since the end of the last full-on Ice Age.  Whether it gets much hotter or much colder, we will need more energy to adapt, and nuclear power is the only source capable of significantly increasing humanity's energy supply (even adding all the "renewables" to our current fossil fuel consumption won't do the trick for a full on Ice Age).
And when they behead your own people in the wars which are to come, then you will know what this was all about.
