Former House lawmaker calls Vance ‘completely unqualified’ to be Trump VP

.

As speculation about who former President Donald Trump will pick as his vice president continues, one former House Republican has a strong opinion on who it shouldn’t be: Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH).

David Jolly, a one-term House representative from Florida who left the Republican Party in 2018, said Vance is “completely unqualified” to be Trump’s vice president in an appearance on MSNBC. Vance has been floated as Trump’s running mate for some time.

Jolly enforced his opinion after an MSNBC report that Sens. Marco Rubio (R-FL), Vance, and Gov. Doug Burgum (R-ND) were among three finalists to join the ticket with Trump.

“Look, I think Rubio and Burgum are two very safe picks and I think they both check the governing and experience box,” Jolly said. “I think J.D. Vance is completely unqualified.”

“As a country, we should want somebody qualified to serve,” he continued. “And I think Rubio, Burgum, whatever you think of their ideology, check that box.”

What makes him unqualified? What on earth made Kamala qualified to be VP, for that matter?

This guy's objection is purely ideological: he sees Vance as one of those terrible conservatives (unlike Rubio or Burgum, apparently).

Ever the push for the "moderates", while the "moderates" have been ever tracking to the Left.  I would be thrilled with a solid Conservative at Veep, and think it would be a definite enhancement to the Trump ticket because it might fast track a Conservative to 2028.

Burgum has done OK in ND, but he's no Ed Shaffer. Shaffer called on all government agencies to return part of their budget over successive years of declining State revenue after the late '70s oil boom died in '86. That expenditure reduction meant the State stayed in the black. Other steps were taken to provide the same services with greater efficiency, something which seems to get lost (especially in education) as revenues increase. He did open trade with China (predominantly grain) and thus increased markets for the State's Agricultural commodities, and he was instrumental in prioritizing internet connectivity throughout the State, including rural areas and small towns. Which is part of the reason today I have far better internet access than relatives just 50 miles outside of D.C., without resorting to Starlink.

Seventeen Techniques for Truth Suppression

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

So, the GOP should give his opinion even a second's hearing, why?

Yup

The idea that anybody, including my autistic son, isn't qualified to be VP is gone
I have little interest in streamlining government or in making it more efficient, for I mean to reduce its size. I do not undertake to promote welfare, for I propose to extend freedom. My aim is not to pass laws, but to repeal them.

Choosing Vance would be both a political and practical mistake.
If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.     -Dwight Eisenhower-

Shaffer would make a solidly conservative VP. He was incredible. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.  :patriot:

Politically, he brings nothing to the table.  Practically, he has no executive experience.
