Biden Blames Debate Performance on Foreign Travel: ‘Wasn’t Very Smart’

President Joe Biden blamed his performance at Thursday’s presidential debate on his foreign travel schedule before the debate, adding that he “wasn’t very smart.”

During a fundraiser in Virginia on Tuesday, Joe Biden claimed he had “decided to travel around the world” before the debate, according to the Hill.

“I wasn’t very smart,” Biden said. “I decided to travel around the world a couple of times … shortly before the debate. I didn’t listen to my staff … and then I almost fell asleep on stage.”

Biden’s words come after he had spent a full week at Camp David preparing for the presidential debate against former President Donald Trump.

“It’s not an excuse but an explanation,” Biden added.

During the presidential debate, Biden appeared confused, he froze, and he had trouble getting through his prepared closing statement without making errors. The president also spoke with a hoarse voice.

The Biden campaign stated that the president had “a cold.”

Biden also brought up several debunked false claims such as the “very fine people” hoax and the “suckers and losers” claim.

Biden’s debate performance has sent members of the media, Democrats, donors, and voters into panic, with some floating the idea of replacing him on the ballot as people began to question if Biden is able to serve another term as president.

While Democrats such as former President Barack Obama, former President Bill Clinton, Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), and Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) have continued to support Biden, Rep. Lloyd Doggett (D-TX) became the first Democrat in office to announce that Biden should withdraw from the presidential election.

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre was questioned on Tuesday about Biden’s mental health.

More BS excuses...that trip was 11 days before the debate and you spent over a week at Camp David *preparing* for the debate...didn't start until after 11am and then had to have an afternoon nap... :smokin:

President Joe Biden apologized for his shaky debate performance, blaming it on his travel schedule.

Speaking at a fundraiser in McLean, Virginia, Biden told donors that he “wasn’t very smart” to debate after traveling, even though he returned from his travels 11 days before the debate.

“I decided to travel around the world a couple of times … shortly before the debate. … I didn’t listen to my staff … and then I almost fell asleep onstage,” he said.

Biden’s five-day trip in the middle of June consisted of going to the G7 summit in Italy, traveling nine time zones back to Los Angeles, and then three time zones forward back to Washington, D.C.

“It’s not an excuse but an explanation,” Biden added on Tuesday, stressing that it was “critical” to win the election.

The president spoke for about six minutes before departing. His remarks came at the tail end of one of the roughest days of his 2024 campaign season.

Being POTUS often involves foreign travel and requires the office holder to be able to make decisions and communicate effectively with staff and the public at all times.  Accepting Biden's proffered explanation of hid debate performance still shows him unfit for office.

Nevermind the fact that Air Force 1 has a big private bedroom for Biden to rest up during long flights.

And isn't foreign travel supposed to be part of the job?

From the complaint, you'd think he had to drive the whole way.

I sleep on aircraft. I don't have to concern myself with getting robbed, and there is nowhere for a perp to go.

The accommodations in economy class aren't near as nice as the ones for POTUS on AF1, either.
