Can't say it was my pleasure, but you guys had followed him so long, and needed to know.  He was my friend, and we met on other MACVSOG sites.  He was a good man.

I want to personally thank you for letting us know @MACVSOG68 and apologize for any misunderstanding we may have had in the past.

Miss him terribly!  Godspeed, my friend!

This from MACVSOG Historical page on FB:

Special Forces (MACV-SOG, CCC)
Arthur Ray Hines, born January 29, 1947, in Virginia Beach, VA, passed away on July 14, 2024, at ECU Health Medical Center. He was 77 years old.
Arthur was a proud Special Forces member of the U.S. Army who served in Vietnam. After his service in the Army, he dedicated many years to his community as a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service. His commitment to his work was unwavering and greatly appreciated by all who knew him.
A graveside service with military honors will be held on Friday, August 9, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Laurel Memorial Gardens, 1115 Macedonia Church Road, Poplar Branch, NC.
Arthur Ray Hines will be remembered with respect and gratitude by those who knew him and benefited from his service.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942 or www.stjude.org/donate.
Twiford Funeral Homes, 405 E. Church Street, Elizabeth City, NC is assisting the Hines' Family. Condolences and memories may be shared at www.TwifordFH.com.

I would really like to go to this, but I can't wing it with this little notice.  I loved Pete.  He had been through a lot in life, but never let it beat him.  Just wish he had known the love of the Father.  I pray that G-d gives him that chance to receive what the enemy blocked him from.

@sneakypete , you are loved and admired.  You will always have my respect, my reverence, and my empathy for life.  Semper Fidelis, my brother.

I know he was a cantankerous old coot (it takes one to know one)
But he stood fast with me though some very dark times.

I know I never knew him... Not in the sense one would normally infer - I never shook his hand, never looked him in the eye. But in the way of anonymous postings on the internet, even then, with a couple decades of simmering, I think the essence of the man can be inferred, if not defined, as it is with the flesh...

I know the name Art Hines passed through my fingertips - A name I probably knew in passing through the years... It's odd how real life is so ethereal as viewed from the net... But @sneakypete  is a name I will carry with me the rest of my life.

@sneakypete was my friend.

RIP

Perfectly stated, @roamer_1 .  Thank you.

Pete and I butted heads and eventually I only felt that I was pushing him further from any chance of knowing Jesus. I saw this thread, but felt I would only push him away from reaching out, like a snake cornered with a hole to retreat in. So I just prayed for him for months now when I remembered. I pray his bitterness would subside enough to see past his hatred...

One could tell he liked this place... the effort he put in replying made me dizzy. I am just a part time poster, he was gung-ho. I don't know if his health failing was partly to blame for the amount of posts or just he loved the place that much. I guess when he asked us not to pray for him on the prayer thread that he was constantly invading for some reason... It was like we were an enigma to him and I just wanted some love to rub off on that hard-head. Of I am not privy to his last days, my dad was the same until his last days. So there is hope... and even last second changes of hearts count to Jesus.

Pete, I hope you know that people were praying for you. Not perfect people, but people that put faith in being that one day.

Thanks for letting us know what happened... I guess he was hospitalized for the duration he was missing... You gave me some sleepless nights Pete, but I pray you knew you were loved enough to cause a few sleepless nights.

Sad to say, Art (Sneakypete) Hines passed away on July 14 in North Carolina.  He was 77 years of age.  Another VN vet who will be missed.
Thank you @MACVSOG68

Seeing this thread,  I went into the list of SP's posts, and had to go at least 2 months in to see an exchange between us and his last post.

The following post made me laugh some.  I was off on my prediction in the sense, at that time, I NEVER imagined Harris being the candidate.

Now, this comment is just not true at all.  Yes, it can be said Trump is NOT conservative on everything, but he did do things that most conservatives support.

Trump did appoint three mostly conservative judges to the Supreme Court.  Remember, you could have dumb clucks like Merrick Garland sitting there making decisions!  At least his picks are a damn sight more conservative than that POS Bush appointee, John worthless Roberts!!  And this body of Supremes did REVERSE ROE VS WADE, while not eliminating abortion, it returned that decision to the states.

Trump implemented policies to greatly reduce the flow of illegal invading aliens into the USA.  He built 240 miles of wall, with NO SUPPORT from a worthless Congress, even when they had a Republican majority.  He did not complete the wall, but he tried.  He failed on this promise, but it was all of Congress that assisted with that fail!!!

He reduced regulations in the USA, which has been a conservative notion for decades.

He reduced federal income taxes in the USA across the board.  Again another conservative notion.

He was successful with his efforts to bring some semblance of peace to the Middle East, not necessarily a conservative notion, but I applaud his efforts there.

And whether you agree with him or not, he imposed tariffs on China, and used some of that money to help farmers in the USA.  Again, I can't find anything wrong here.  He renegotiated NAFTA and other trade agreements where the USA was getting the short end of the stick, and that is more conservative than most conservative, which spout free trade, and all we end up with is anything that resembles something other than FAIR TRADE.  Screw free trade if it means the USA gets the short end of the stick.

He was the first POTUS to tell the worthless allies in Europe to start paying your FAIR SHARE for NATO.  I say that is more conservative than any conservative prior to him EVER UTTERED!!!!

Does Trump come with a huge host of rough edges?  HELL YES!!!  He is obnoxious, that is a given.  Ignorant as often as he is diplomatic.  True enough.

And for me, a white collar person who believed he would end the H1-b Visa Program, who felt betrayed when he met with the tech billionaire oligarchs in the USA and INCREASED THE NUMBER OF H1-B VISA RECIPIENTS MONTHS INTO HIS PRESIDENCY, well that was an aw-shit that wiped out all his atta boys for me for 3.5 years.

BUT...............

Huge BUT, are you willing to return a communist to the position of POTUS, regardless as to whether it is Wrecking Ball Joe, Big Mike, or the idiot governors of California, Michigan, or Illinois?  Really???!!!!

Trump would not have been my candidate in the primary, but the primary is over.  My guy FAILED to point out the problem with Trump which I thought was a stupid and weak approach to dealing with him.

For all the reasons of his past efforts to accomplish conservative goals, I WILL VOTE FOR TRUMP.  I think he will once again be alone, and have next to zero support from the supposed Republican conservatives in Congress.  Everything will be done with Executive Orders.  But I would rather have him signing EOs than a communist puppet like Wrecking Ball Joe!!!!

THE REAL QUESTION EVERYONE HERE NEEDS TO ASK THEMSELVES IS:

WHERE WILL THIS COUNTRY BE AFTER FOUR MORE YEARS OF WRECKING BALL JOE, OR PERHAPS WORSE BIG MIKE?  NOT ONE DAMN THING GOOD WILL COME OF HAVING EITHER OF THESE CLOWNS AS POTUS.

@jafo2010

A valiant effort, but you  are wasting your time.

Given a choice in the matter, Sneakypete would have chosen to go over the "Rainbow Bridge" than to someplace called "Heaven".

He had two hobbies.

One, he shared with us...being a treasure in TBR for many years.
The other was caring for neighborhood feral cat colonies.

So hours of reading past posts with SneakyPete, and on Page 3 or 4 of this thread, I came across the notice of his passing, just now.

RIP Art/Pete.  We had many interesting exchanges.

Going back and reading some of our exchanges, I convinced him to use shark cartilage for his cancer.  He admitted he thought it helped him, but in our PMs, I think he did not use the correct dosage.  It does matter.  And a pharma came out and he abandoned using the shark cartilage for the pharma.  I trust pharma as far as I can throw them.

I have helped so  many live years, including my parents and mother-in-law, besides maybe 20 others.  Taken correctly, it has worked on 100% of them.  It is all about the right dose in conjunction with one's body weight.

RIP.  I will miss you.

The thing I liked most about 'pete is if you posted stupid stuff to him he'd call you out. He made you think before you put it out there. Always loved him for that.

I think his hard-nosed attitude was what I respected. I never served in the military or fought a war, but a few decades doing blue collar jobs gives you a fairly similar perspective of what is real and what is bs. We got along pretty good in that regard.

If I recall, he attributed a lot of his health problems to Agent Orange exposure in Vietnam

I had a patient many years ago, who had cancers due to his service in Vietnam and exposure to Agent Orange

Exactly...

Since this is how we treat our nation's best, you can imagine what contempt our government (enemy) has for the rest of us.
