Biden's $43M Project to Expand Internet Access Hasn't Connected a Single Person in Three Years

If there’s one thing Democrats are really, really good at, it’s spending millions upon millions of taxpayer dollars and getting exactly zero results. So perhaps this next story will come as no surprise.

It should, however, absolutely disgust and enrage you.

The Biden administration’s nearly $43 million plan to expand internet access in rural areas across the United States - a plan that was launched three years ago under the 2021 Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, I might add - has yet to connect a single, solitary person to broadband.

The Washington Times reports:

Residents in rural America are eager to access high-speed internet under a $42.5 billion federal modernization program, but not a single home or business has been connected to new broadband networks nearly three years after President Biden signed the funding into law, and no project will break ground until sometime next year.

The report notes the hang-ups are largely due to federal red tape including climate mandates, rules for hiring union workers, and a “requirement that eligible companies prioritize the employment of ‘justice-impacted’ people with criminal records to install broadband equipment.”

Leave it to leftists to get in their own stupid way.

So now let me see if I’m understanding this one correctly: the Biden administration waxed poetic about wanting to expand internet access to all the poor country folk in the hollers and hills, to the tune of tens of millions of tax dollars, likely as a way to garner political support from rural Americans in predominantly red strongholds. But instead of making good on their promise, Democrats have been stymied by their own onerous rules and regulations, like making sure we don’t disturb the prairie chickens while hiring enough convicts to lay the wiring..............

Biden burns billions to connect no one to the internet

.

President Joe Biden has made it a habit during his administration to spend billions upon billions of dollars without anyone seeing a worthwhile benefit, and people are starting to notice.

In November 2021, Congress passed the $1.2 trillion Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, which included $42.5 billion to increase access to high-speed internet in rural areas. Two years and seven months later, zero homes have seen the benefits of this money, and the projects will not even hit their start dates until 2025 or 2026 (at the earliest).

“There hasn’t been a single shovel’s worth of dirt that has even been turned toward connecting people,” according to Federal Communications Commissioner Brendan Carr.

Project implementation was reportedly hampered by regulations requiring providers to prioritize “certain segments of the workforce, such as individuals with past criminal records” and to account for climate related risks both now and in the coming decades.

This revelation comes three months after another Biden dud relating to that November 2021 infrastructure bill. That bill included a $7.5 billion investment in electric vehicle charging and yet, as of March, that money has been turned into just seven charging stations. Biden had promised to build 500,000 charging stations by 2030. Currently, we are on pace for about 22.

On the bright side, since the money has been allocated, but not necessarily spent or disbursed, fiscal conservatives may have an opportunity to clawback unspent funds.

What one appropriation bill giveth, a subsequent appropiation bill can taketh away.  That's one of the unexplored options for these multi-year spending bills - clawback the unspent appropriations.
