Fox News Poll: Three-point shift in Biden-Trump matchup since May
32% give the economy positive marks, a record-high during Biden’s presidency

President Joe Biden is the frontrunner in a hypothetical matchup against former President Trump for the first time since October, as positive views of the economy inch up – hitting their highest level thus far in the Biden presidency, according to a new Fox News national survey. 

Since May, there was a 3-point change in the presidential race. Trump was ahead by 1 point last month, while Biden is up by 2 points today: 50%-48%. That’s well within the margin of error.

Beyond improved evaluations of the economy, a range of other events since the May survey could influence small shifts in vote preference, including Trump’s hush money conviction, Hunter Biden’s gun trial conviction, a positive U.S. jobs report, and Biden’s immigration executive order.

Biden’s current 50% support is his best this election cycle; he hasn’t been ahead of Trump since October 2023 and that was by just 1 point (49-48%).

There was also a 4-point shift in the expanded ballot. When other potential candidates are included, Biden tops Trump by 1 point (43-42%), and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. receives 10%, and Cornel West and Jill Stein get 2% each. Last month, Trump was ahead of Biden by 3 points (43-40%). 

Conducted June 14-17, 2024 under the joint direction of Beacon Research (D) and Shaw & Company Research (R), this Fox News survey includes interviews with a sample of 1,095 registered voters randomly selected from a national voter file. Respondents spoke with live interviewers on landlines (130) and cellphones (700) or completed the survey online after receiving a text (265). Results based on the full sample have a margin of sampling error of ±3 percentage points. Sampling error associated with subgroup results is higher. In addition to sampling error, question wording and order can influence results. Weights are generally applied to age, race, education, and area variables to ensure the demographics of respondents are representative of the registered voter population. Sources for developing weight targets include the American Community Survey, Fox News Voter Analysis, and voter file data.

What makes you think Fox is "Pro Trump"?  I recall their decision desk handing Arizona to Biden VERY early on. There is no such thing as a pro-Trump network today.

As a business, Fox News is not Pro-Trump. There are commentators on Fox who are pro-Trump, maybe a majority of them, but the Murdochs make no secret of the fact that they would prefer that someone else carry the conservative mantle. I think the network will give him cover for the general election, if only because the Murdochs hate Biden more than they hate Trump.

I don't believe there has been a three-point shift in sentiment since May. Over time, this poll will reveal itself to have been an anomaly. The only event that could precipitate a 3-point shift is the debate, and that would require a disaster for one side or another. CNN has fixed the rules so that won't happen, at least to Biden.

President Joe Biden‘s campaign is seeing a glimmer of hope, with a new poll showing him leading former President Donald Trump overall — and with one of the former president’s key demographics.

A Fox News poll released Wednesday evening shows Biden leading Trump overall, 50%-48%, in a head-to-head matchup and shows the president leading with older voters, 57%-42%. Voters aged 65 and older went for Trump 51%-48% in the 2020 election, according to AP Votecast, but those voters look to be shifting away from the former president.

The Biden campaign has courted older voters as the president faces concerns over his age and mental acuity and has been able to peel off support from them, according to other polls, alongside Wednesday’s Fox News survey.

The poll is a step in the right direction for Biden, who has trailed Trump in most recent national and battleground state surveys, but the lead in the Fox News poll still falls within the margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points and is still behind the 4.5-point margin Biden won by nationally in 2020. Another warning sign for the president is his polling with key minority groups.

Not a good poll but look at the aggregates, Trump is still doing pretty good. Also, the aggregates had him down to HIllary by 2% in 2016, but the Electoral College Advantage put him over the edge, he still won.

Good news and bad news for Trump in the polls

The latest round of polling contains good news and bad news for both President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump less than a week before their first debate showdown.

Biden enjoyed his first lead in a national Fox News poll since October. It is also his largest, with the president beating Trump by 2 points, 50% to 48% in a two-way race. That drops to 1 point when third-party candidates are included, with Biden receiving 43% to Trump’s 42%.

Trump still leads by 0.5 points in the national RealClearPolitics polling average, though Biden has inched ahead by 0.1 points in FiveThirtyEight’s average thanks to five straight national polls putting the Democrat on top (all by 1 to 2 points).

But swing-state polling for the Hill and Emerson College paints a different picture. Trump leads in six battleground states and is tied in the seventh in a two-way race. This improves to all seven when three third-party candidates, including independent Robert F. Kennedy Jr., are counted.

Former President Donald Trump is running the table against President Biden in six battleground states, fresh polling shows.

The surveys from Emerson College and The Hill show the 45th president edging out Biden in Arizona (47%-43%), Georgia (45%-41%), Michigan (46%-45%), Nevada (46%-43%), Pennsylvania (47%-45%), and Wisconsin (47%-44%).

In all six states, Trump’s lead has either remained the same or grown from the outlet’s polls taken last month, before he was convicted by a Manhattan jury on 34 business fraud charges.

“In our first polling in several key swing states since Trump’s conviction last month, there has been little movement, with support for both Trump and Biden staying largely consistent since November,” Emerson College Polling Executive Director Spencer Kimball explained.
