CNN’s Sidner: ‘The Economy Is Doing Well, by All Measures’ Even Though ‘Prices Are High’, GOP Not Giving Biden Credit

Ian Hanchett 18 Jun 2024

On Monday’s broadcast of “CNN News Central,” co-host Sara Sidner stated that “the economy is doing well, by all measures.” Even though “the prices are high” and said that some Republicans haven’t been giving credit to President Joe Biden for improvements to roads and bridges under the infrastructure law.

While speaking with Biden Campaign Co-Chair Mitch Landrieu, Sidner said, “Look, the economy is doing well, by all measures. Yes, the prices are high. There was also the infrastructure bill that was pushed through that some Republicans in their states have been touting, not giving the credit, of course, to Joe Biden, but telling their citizens that this is a great thing, look at the roads, look at the bridges, we’re doing things. But the messaging doesn’t seem to be hitting voters. Why do you think that is? And how do you think that needs to change?”

Landrieu responded that people will see the improvements in infrastructure and already see some of them in addition to the work to repair collapses and stated that the American economy is strong compared to other countries and President Biden has a strong record on the economy that they’ll tout.

By all measures in nominal dollars.  How about measures based on purchasing power parity?
And when they behead your own people in the wars which are to come, then you will know what this was all about.

MSM financial media has even lost its mind.

Hard inlfation is a gift that gives forever.  Don't give us, it's not as bad as it was before.

We'll never see that loss of 30% of buying power ever again.
I display the Confederate Battle Flag in honor of my great great great grandfathers who spilled blood at Wilson's Creek and Shiloh.  5 others served in the WBTS with honor too.

The economy is doing well if you don't need to buy stuff to live - like food, shelter, medicine, and energy.   *****rollingeyes*****

"I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo.

Well, it looks like sales are up...for crack cocaine and hallucinogenics, at least where the media people are.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Retirees, low/no skilled and uneducated workers have it tough.

While inflation hurts everyone except the wealthy, if you have jobs skills, education, skilled trades career you are doing quite well right now.

Las Vegas has record amount of tourist this year. Memorial day had the highest amount of flyers in our history. This is not a sign of a bad economy.

A woman on FB I know just graduated with a BSRN degree. She has over 60 legit offers from medical center  all across the country..most are 6 figures and most are paying 10-15-20k+ hire on bonus

@Bigun  posted a graph above of low consumer sentiment. If you read into the details people are saying this because they think other people are having it rough but they themselves have said they are doing ok.

Why was there a record amount of flyers on Memorial Day? Flying cost have increased.  People with no money or worried about finances do not fly. A record amount of people were also on the highways Memorial Day.

A majority of Americans think the economy is in bad shape, but at the same time say their own finances are good, finds a new poll out from Quinnipiac University this week.

Why it matters: Since 2020, people's perceptions of the economy haven't quite lined up with, well, how the economy is doing. This latest poll offers a new way of looking at the phenomenon.

By the numbers: In the telephone survey of 1,818 adults Aug. 10-14, 71% of Americans described the economy as either not so good or poor. And 51% said it's getting worse.

But 60% said their financial situation is good or excellent.
What they're saying: "Can you be generally happy with your personal financial position and still think the economy is going in the tank? For a broad section of Americans, apparently so," Quinnipiac University polling analyst Tim Malloy said in a press release.
