Does Caitlyn Clark's tremendous popularity have a lot to do with the fact that she's white in a mostly black league?
Well, duh? Now, is that a bad thing? Well, no.
The facts are white people like to watch white athletes succeed just as black people like to watch black athletes succeed.
I doubt black people who watch tennis probably only watch when black athletes (Serena Williams, Coco Gauff) are playing.
That's just reality.
And to be sure virtually nobody was watching the WNBA before Clark started playing. She's benefiting everybody in the league. Unfortunately, many of the players don't realize that and are jealous. So, I guess they'd rather be playing in front of small crowds rather than playing before large crowds? Ridiculous.
What irritates me are the anti-Clark people who say she's only an average player. She played a full season with Iowa where she set national scoring records and almost took her team to the championship.
As a rookie she's had two thirty point games, and her team is starting to win after a slow start.
Watching Clark she does some things I don't think a lot of male pros can do well. Her ability to hit three point shots off the dribble is amazing. Many of the shots she takes look like NBA distance. She's also an excellent ballhandler/passer.
If she doesn't get maimed by some of the jealous black players, she looks to be a star in the league.
I'm not going to start watching just because of her, but I wish her well. And I wish the other players would realize they're all better off with Clark in the league.
