This past week several news outlets talked about the “Western Heat Wave” and tried to link it to “climate change.” Climate Central was the source of most of these stories with a press release that said:

“Between June 5-7, much of the Western United States, Mexico, and Eastern Canada are poised to experience a period of unusually hot conditions made much more likely because of human-caused climate change. During this period, over 229 million people across North America will experience extreme heat made at least three times more likely because of human-caused climate change.”

We see this every year, and we’ll see it again this year as the feckless media regurgitates the heatwave hype. We will tackle this subject, as well as go over the Crazy Climate News of the Week. It no longer matters whether any of it is true. Just the opposite, in fact. If you point out the truth, you’re accused of being a denier.


Sure, the data doesn’t show an increase in the number or intensity of hurricanes or tornadoes or wildfires. Yet every time one or the other strikes, the press robotically connects that event to “climate change.”

Every tornado season, we hear about how climate change is making them more frequent and more deadly. Except the facts don’t support the narrative.

Here are the main points that they insist that journalist around the world make in each and every story about Summer.

“Reporting Guidance: 2024’s Extreme Heat

Climate change is making extreme heat more frequent and more severe. Here are resources, sample copy, and tips to help you meet the moment.”

Now, I am a climate journalist myself and I admit that I am not entirely sure exactly what they mean by “tips to help you meet the moment”, nonetheless, I will share those tips with readers here.  Why?  So that when you see them repeated in your local newspapers, hear them on the radio, or watch some TV weatherman rattle them off, you’ll know the true source of the exaggerated statements and general misinformation.

Historical Fact:  June heat is nothing new.  At the Battle of Monmouth, fought on June 28, 1778, the temperature was well into the 90s and perhaps over 100.

While the climate was generally cooler during the war, the Revolution also saw one of the hottest battles as well. On June 28, 1778, the British and Americans fought the Battle of Monmouth on one of the hottest days of the year, with highs of temperatures near 100 degrees Fahrenheit.  With the battle raging all day, more men died from heat exhaustion than enemy musket balls or cannon shots.

For several days, the heat was building over the East Coast, most likely from a high-pressure ridge aloft. June 27th was very hot and humid across southern New Jersey and there were reports of afternoon thunderstorms.

As mentioned earlier, the heat was intense. There were some reports that the temperature approached or even exceeded 100 degrees.

Since there were thunderstorms the day before, we know that humidity levels were high. The heat index was probably over 110 degrees. Soldiers were collapsing from heat exhaustion and many died on that day from the heat rather than from weaponry.

Others became extremely ill and couldn’t continue. The heavy woolen uniforms that the soldiers wore didn’t help matters. There were some recollections that the soldiers were ordered to take off their coats. The extreme conditions had a deadly effect on horses, as well. It has been said that George Washington’s horse collapsed and died.

There's been near-hysteria in Great Britain recently. Heat wave! We're all going to die! It's going to reach (wait for it) the 80s! It just sounds worse when we put it in Celsius, or something.
