US Rep. Chip Roy Demands Answers From DOJ Targeting Texas SurgeonTexas Scorecard by Emily Medeiros June 28, 2024
Roy’s letter asks the Biden-run Department of Justice for all documents and communications relating to their investigation into Dr. Eithan Haim. After a doctor at the Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston was indicted by the U.S. Department of Justice, U.S. Rep. Chip Roy is demanding answers.
Dr. Eithan Haim, a surgeon working at the hospital, came into the spotlight after alleging that gender mutilation procedures on minors were being performed at Texas Children’s Hospital despite the hospital’s public claim that it had ceased these practices. He is now facing a four-count indictment for allegedly obtaining personal patient information—including names, treatment codes, and details of the attending physicians—through the institution’s electronic system without authorization.
If convicted, Haim faces up to ten years in federal prison and a fine of up to $250,000.
Now, Roy has sent a letter to U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland demanding answers as to why the Biden administration targeted Haim.
“The circumstances of the Department’s actions toward Dr. Haim raise concerns that it is misusing its law-enforcement authority to advance left-wing policy goals,” wrote Roy. “This prosecution is just the latest example of how the Biden-Garland Justice Department is using the law to target ideological adversaries instead of equally enforcing the law.”
