As next month’s Republican National Convention approaches, it appears former President Donald Trump’s vice presidential search is intensifying.
Vice presidential candidates “recently received vetting materials,” five sources familiar with the process told NBC News.
NBC News confirmed that Gov. Doug Burgum (R-ND) is among those who have received materials. He’s a familiar name in Trump’s wide-ranging vice presidential search and has appeared with the former president at campaign events along with his hush money trial.
The news organization also reported that Burgum and Sens. Marco Rubio (R-FL), Tim Scott (R-SC), and J.D. Vance (R-OH) are his top four prospects.
Other names included Gov. Kristi Noem (R-SD), Reps. Byron Donalds (R-FL) and Elise Stefanik (R-NY), and former Trump administration official Ben Carson.
“Sources plugged into conversations about the search cautioned that Trump is working from a fluid shortlist that at times includes more than a half-dozen names,” NBC News wrote. “Additions, subtractions and the emergence of dark-horse candidates remain possible.”
